Dora L. Small Elementary School PTA Newsletter 87 Thompson Street December 8, 2015 http://small.spsd.org South Portland, Maine [email protected] News and Notes The second annual Small School Craft Fair was a huge success! All 19 tables were sold, and we had several Small Schoolers selling bath bombs, walking sticks, goo, jewelry, pet items, and painted pots. Including the bake sale, raffle, book and toy sale, t-shirts, and popcorn sales, we made about $1,400 that will directly benefit Small School students! Thank you SO MUCH to all the sellers, crafters, and volunteers. We couldn’t have done it without you! Don’t forget to place your Coffee By Design order for the holidays! The special Small School Blend is a perfect way to welcome holiday guests and is great as a gift. Check out the info in your Small Schooler’s tote and place your order by December 10. Orders will be ready for pickup December 18! If you have ordered more than four, please arrange for your Small Schooler to have help picking them up and delivery after school on the 18th. Thanks to all of those parents and guardians who have participated in fundraising efforts to date in support of the PTA! We are still working towards our goals with respect to fundraising and will be grateful for your continued support for the rest of the school year. Please see the next page for a fundraising update! How Can I Help? We are looking for a few good tote stuffers! We’re looking for people to sign up for at least one Tuesday a month, from 9:30 until the stuffing’s done! Please contact Elizabeth Perry at [email protected] to volunteer. We need classroom helpers in Kindergarten! Just contact your kindergartner’s teacher to volunteer. Dig around in the Lost & Found! You would be shocked—SHOCKED!—at how many coats, hats, gloves, and shoes have lost their owners. Is your Small Schooler one of them? Why not spend a minute after school to take a look together? _________________________________________________________________________________________ Co-Presidents Colleen Tetzlaff [email protected] Joanna Nichols Basinger [email protected] Co-Vice Presidents Carter Scott [email protected] Jennifer Christensen [email protected] Co-Treasurers Susan Rauscher [email protected] Christine Parenteau [email protected] Co-Secretaries Karen Keefe [email protected] Rachel Larsen [email protected] Coming up! Financial Update

The Small School PTA ended last school year on a very positive note, and so we were able to begin the year with about $8,000 already in the bank. Since then we have strengthened our resources and passed the profits on to our Small Schoolers through the following initiatives:

Small School Craft Fair = about $1,400 Meadow Farms catalogue sales = about $1,280 Contribution Campaign = about $1,400 to date

(Don’t forget you can give anytime! Visit dorasmallpta.blogspot.com)

Nonesuch Books Night = $380.64 Otto Pizza Night = $233.82 Happy Wheels Night = $275.20 Movie Night = about $500 Coffee By Design and poinsettia sales = still rolling in! Box Tops = $300 leftover from last year, with another $200 already this year! Popcorn: averages between $35 & $45 per week—this money goes directly to a different classroom every week!

Here are some of the amazing opportunities that these fundraising activities provide for our Small Schoolers!

Kindergartners went to pick apples at Snell Family Farm!

First-graders got an outing to Merrill Auditorium!

Fourth-graders got a visit from MEEP (Maine Energy Education Program)!

And…THIS JUST IN…the PTA just approved a March visit from Maine author Jennifer Jacobson! Keep your eye on the PTA newsletter for more about this and other upcoming events!
