SAY Sí is a tuition-free national award winning multidisciplinary arts program that assists youth in the development of artistic and social skills in preparation for

higher educational advancement and professional careers.

As a prelude to Contemporary Arts Month, the public is invited to take the pulse of what is happening in San Antonio’s rich and varied artistic community.

With over 200 artworks in every discipline, Small Scale serves as both a fundraiser for SAY Sí’s free award-winning programs, and a survey of up-and-coming, mid-career and established artists

and their current work.

The exhibit runs the entire of month of February and culminates with one of the best fundraising events in town. A Silent Auction and an Un-Silent Party! Featuring food, drink and three silent auction closing times.

Gallery Hours: Mon. - Thurs. 11 AM - 7 PM; Fri. & Sat. 9 AM - 5 PM; Closed Sun.

Small Scale Benefit: Friday, Feb. 25, 6:30 - 9:30 PM, $40 per person, pre-sale, $50 @ the door

SAY Sí Central, 1518 South Alamo Street, San Antonio TX 78204

As part of our annual auction, every year SAY Sí selects two featured artists and showcases their work in our project galleries, many of our featured artists have been contributors to our annual benefit for many years. Artists have full creative control and all the work in the featured artist area is available for sale with 100% of the proceeds benefiting that artist.

2011 Featured Artists: Susan Budge: Professor, Head of Ceramics, San Antonio College

Susan Budge makes art that can somehow make a connection to a range of work that includes Paleolithic talismans, early modernism via Brancusi, Miro and Tanguy, thrift store chatchkas and the backgrounds of Hannah Barbera cartoons. These associations aren’t entirely new and yet when they

usually show up in an artist’s work they more often than not come with a hefty dose of irony.

Susan Budge makes a very strong case for the idea that articulation and iconography can exist on an equally high plane. The beauty and complexity of her work make it clear that these things were never

mutually exclusive. Through the seduction of her talent and the breadth of her ideas Susan Budge offers a reconnection to the origins of art making.

Mark Hogensen: Professor of Art, Fine Arts Department, Palo Alto CollegeMark’s paintings have always celebrated color and form in unique formats--often with subtle

historical references. Recent paintings have returned to the traditional rectangular format that marks a departure from the irregular shaped paintings that have been the hallmark of his work

for more than two decades. Mark’s work employs vibrant color in addition to spatial manipulations
