Directions: This year at St. James the 8th grade will be reading 

fictional and nonfictional stories told in the form of narratives. To 

begin our unit, we will have our summer reading of a coming of age 

narrative told through the perspective of a middle schooler who has 

polio. 

 

You will answer the following questions as you read Small Steps. You 

can checkout the novel from your local library or get the novel at a 

local bookstore. You will need to have access to the novel the first two 

weeks of school for activities. The novel questions and activities will be
