musical talent boasting early hits such as “Shuyamouf” totheir first holiday single “Coming Down Ya Chimney;” theyare the next group of artists to watch out for.  Carmen Lehtimaki: I just watched the video for ‘ComingDown Ya Chimney,” and as usual, it did not disappoint. What made you guys decide to finally come out with aChristmas song?

Flynt Flossy: People kept asking us. We were vibing withone of our super producers, and we wanted to makesomething with that grind to it. We got our pen and pad,and he made the beat on the spot. We came up withsomething really quick. It worked out better than wethought because we usually like to have songs with a lot ofstory behind them.

CL: What was your vision when you first started, andwhat is it now?

Turquoise Jeep: To do what we’re doing, but on anotherlevel. We’ve had the chance to move over to TV, but wewant to continue to do radio on a larger level. We want to

be a household name in Russia and England and torepresent feel-good music. We’re wacky, we want to have aclothing line, and along the way, we want to let peopleknow we’re real. We’re blessed.

CL: In an interview with The Village Voice you werequoted as saying that you came to Whatchyamacallitwith the idea of putting together Turquoise Jeep. Canyou talk about that one defining moment when youknew you wanted to do this?

Flynt Flossy: As soon as I touched the camera for our firstproject. To see that we had total creative freedom wasreally an outlet. When you’re in the industry it’s different. When you’re doing it for yourself it’s rewarding. When westarted getting TV appearances we knew we were on theright track.

CL: You’ve recently added a few more members suchas Moon Rock. Where do you find talent and what kindof people are you looking for?

TJ: That’s a good question. It’s what finds us. People who

aren’t afraid of what other people think about them. Whensomething comes into our heads - song or video- we put itout there regardless of what people think. We’re looking forpeople who don’t fall into the same container as everyoneelse and who aren’t so cookie-cutter. They have originalityand are confident.

CL: Have you ever had any backlash from a femalebecause she thought or knew one of your songs wasabout her?

Flynt Flossy: [Laughs] We’re so honest. Yeah, thathappened to me man, a lot of the songs are not alwaysspecifically about one person. It’s a combo of what we talkabout and personal experience. “Why I Gotta Wait" isbased on several encounters I had. I had some backlash onsome suspicion and I said, ‘no comment man I don’t knowwhat you’re talking about.’

Whatchyamacallit: I’ve never had backlash, but I’ve hadpeople suspect me. This is entertainment. Some thingshave caught up with me.

CL: How has this changed your life? Are you starting tobecome overwhelmed with pressure to look a certainway in public or do you feel any lack of privacy thesedays?

Flynt Flossy: I always have sunglasses on. I’m real private.I’m real nonchalant. [The] paparazzi is not go[ing] get goodshots of me. There’s no pressure for me.

Whatchyamacallit: I don’t see any pressure for me. We justfeel like regular guys. People just lose their shit if they findout who we are with, but we don’t feel any pressurebecause people fell in love with us naturally so who we areon camera is us.

Flynt Flossy: If you kick it with us off camera, there’s not ahuge difference bringing it out on film. There’s no edits; weare funny, and we like having fun. We are weird. I love foodall day. We all have our weird things.

Whatchyamacallit: I like animals. We all do our certain thing, but we have fun.

CL: I know you guys love your fans regardless, but dothink you have more of an urban fan base or do youthink it’s more multicultural?

Flynt Flossy: Multicultural. I don’t know. It’s kind of all overthe board. You’ll go to a show, and it’s a young crowd thenanother one has an older crowd. There was a 70-something-year-old and her husband from England. Wewere shocked, but it’s amazing that people have flown fromAustralia and all that.

CL: What’s one thing you want your fans to know aboutyou that they don’t already?

Whatchyamacallit: I have a dog and I would take a bullet forhim. Straight ham and cheese. They don’t know that I cancook; I throw down in the kitchen.

Flynt Flossy: I don’t know that’s a tough one. I really speakmy mind a lot. I am always conversing and what not sothere isn’t much I hold back.

Keep-up with Turquoise Jeep here.
