STRATEGIC DIRECTION

GSC-18, 22-23 July 2014, Sophia Antipolis

• SDN and NFV standardization is under progress in parallel. Global coordination among two groups is required

• SDN/NFV standardization in software platform and relevant interfaces are actively in progress but that of hardware platform is relatively in active. For open hardware platform standardization requires attention

• Transport SDN seems a common interest as a high priority item among fixed or wireless carriers. Faster standardization efforts may help the relevant industry

• Standardization of SDN South/North-bound APIs are under active progress but East-West interface needs coordination as well

14

Page 15: SMART INTERNET R&D AND STANDARDIZATION Taesang Choi, Principal Research GSC-18 Meeting, 22-23 July 2014, Sophia Antipolis, France Document No: GSC(14)18_007

CHALLENGES & HOT ISSUES

GSC-18, 22-23 July 2014, Sophia Antipolis

• Autonomic management and control (AMC) are also attracting attentions for cloud data center management and M2M/IoT infrastructure management. Efforts to combine AMC with SDN/NFV in terms of standardization are also worth of global standardization collaboration

• NFV introduces many virtual middleboxes and service chaining is one aspect of managing them but more comprehensive management framework and its standardization are needed for widely distributed middleboxes

15

Page 16: SMART INTERNET R&D AND STANDARDIZATION Taesang Choi, Principal Research GSC-18 Meeting, 22-23 July 2014, Sophia Antipolis, France Document No: GSC(14)18_007

NEXT STEPS / ACTIONS

GSC-18, 22-23 July 2014, Sophia Antipolis

• Possible standardization items for collaboration• T-SDN• SDN Scalability and Reliability Architecture• SDN East-West Interface• Autonomic Management and Control

• Co-work among GSC members including various SDO activities such as ITU-T SG13/SG15, IETF, and ONF
