He also returns to Agatha Christie’s summer home in Devon - where he met the author’s family after being cast as Poirot - and visits Belgium to explore Poirot’s roots and learn what Belgians think about one of their most famous fictional sons. ATLANTIC CITY JAZZ BAND Saturday, April 15 at 1pm Join as for a performance by the Atlantic City Jazz Band to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the first jazz recording and Jazz Appreciation Month. PUBLIC PLACES, COMMUNITY SPACESSaturday, April 1 from 1-2 pm Landscape architect Scott Taylor, who designed many of Avalon’s public and community spaces, will talk about the planning for and construction of: Veterans Plaza, the September 11th Memorial, and the 39th street playground/park, as well as the revitalization of the downtown business district. He also will announce a new, exciting recreation initiative coming soon to Avalon!

*MOSAIC PIN ART WORKSHOP Monday and Tuesday, April 3 and 4 from 10am-Noon with art instructor Michele Pascuillo. Create a unique piece of wearable art with bits of tile, glass, beads and other interesting materials. The first day of this 2-session class is planning and gluing. The second class is grouting and finishing. Patrons will be able to take the finished project home at the end of the 2nd session.

FOOD FOR FINES DURING NATIONAL LIBRARY WEEK April 9-15. Let your overdue book fines help those in need.

During National Library Week, the Avalon library will sponsor a food for fines program. This will allow you to “pay” overdue fines with donations of non-perishable canned or packaged food items.

Each donated item will be equal to $1.00 in fines. This program is for existing fines only; library materials must be returned before the donation can be applied to the fine.

Even if you don’t have fines, your donations will be welcomed. All food items will be donated to the food bank at Holy Redeemer.
