• SIP trunk is an IP based PSTN Trunk. This first step towards convergence in PSTN telephony is
going to change the landscape of voice communications in India.
• Unlike in traditional telephony, where bundles of physical wires are being delivered from the service

Case Study: VMC Technologies
SIP Trunk by Tata Docomo
• VMC Technologies was given 300 SIP
channels delivered on IP link.
• SIP Trunk ensured easy scalability when
required by VMC Technologies without any
more physical ports/ links required.
• Due to lesser post dial delay, call maturity was
faster on SIP Trunk compared to PRI which
increased the efficiency of dialer.
The Benefits
• Increased dialer efficiency made it ideal
solution for OBD process.
• No more dependency on chassis based up-
gradation on hardware, reduction in AMC/Data
centre operation costs.
• Open standard SIP Codec gives good ROI,
higher productivity, and flexibility to add more
channels on the same Ethernet port.
Moving to SIP Trunk, with 100
channels at first, and then ramping

• PSTN access with 900 channels for domestic calling.
• Faster connectivity and higher ASR so as to deliver calls to target audience in a given
span.

• Nine Hundred SIP channels distributed into five physical links of 180
channel each (180*5) connected to 5 different OBD servers
• Each SIP Trunk is connected to Ethernet port at respective dialers with
each dialer having 2 ports, one for local LAN and other for housing TTL
SIP Trunk.
• Multiple CLIs for handling multiple OBD process with unique CLIs from
same dialer.

• CAPEX savings as no PRI cards required for housing 30
PRIs corresponding to 900 channels
