Chapter 1: Introduction

Overview SmarTeam Design Express for CATIA is an easily implemented solution for collaborative Product Data Management for design teams tailored specifically to CATIA design methodologies. Built on top of the SmarTeam CATIA Integration the solution consists of a SmarTeam database, scripts and icons, demo data and CATIA scripts. It is accompanied by additional presentations and documenta-tion including methodology, training guides and an implementation plan.

Chapter 2: Installation Checklist

This checklist gives a detailed list of all the steps that need to be performed and the order in which the products need to be installed. You must complete all the stages in this checklist to successfully install SmarTeam Design Express for CATIA.

Chapter 3: Installation Prerequisites

The following prerequisites must be met before installing SmarTeam Design Express for CATIA.

All installations require SMARTEAM - Editor V5R16 starting from V5R16 SP4.

The database installation requires SQL 2000 Server or MSDE Server.

Demo Data installation requires that the directory C:\Program Files\SmarTeam be available and writable. If this directory does not exist, it will be created during installation.

Note: SmarTeam Design Express for CATIA is installed in the SMARTEAM application directory.

Chapter 4: SmarTeam Design Express for CATIA Installation Process

This chapter provides a step-by-step description of the installation process for installing SmarTeam Design Express for CATIA.

During the installation process, you can select which components to install.

SmarTeam Design Express for CATIA InstallationsSmarTeam Design Express for CATIA may be installed as a standalone application on a single machine for demonstration purposes, or as a system with server and client machines in a network.

The InstallShield Wizard allows you to choose the specific components to be installed on any given machine. The exact configuration of each machine is determined by the customer's needs.

In general, it is expected that the database, scripts and icons will be located on servers while the SDE-CATIA Application, Demo Data and CATIA Client Components will be installed on each of the client machines.

The following table shows some typical configurations that can be set up on a standalone machine or on client/server machines.

Chapter 4: SmarTeam Design Express for CATIA Installation Process Installing SmarTeam Design Express for CATIA

Installing SmarTeam Design Express for CATIA To install SmarTeam Design Express for CATIA:

1 Navigate to the SmarTeam Design Express for CATIA directory and double-click the Setup file setup.exe.

The SmarTeam Design Express for CATIA Opening screen appears.

2 Click any key.

The Welcome to the Install Wizard screen appears:



3 In the Welcome to the Install Shield Wizard for SmarTeam Design Express for CATIA window, click Next.

The Custom Setup screen appears:

4 From the list of features, select the features you want install.

Note: By default only the components necessary for a client machine are auto-matically selected.

5 Select CATIA Client Components to open the CATIA Client Components feature.

6 Click the button.

The Install submenu appears:



7 Select "This feature and all subfeatures will be installed on the local hard drive".

8 Select Demo Data to open the Demo Data feature.

9 Click on the button and from the Install submenu shown above, select "This feature and all subfeatures will be installed on the local hard drive".

Note: The CATIA catalog is automatically installed intoC:\Program Files\SmarTeam\SDE_CATIA\CATIA Catalog. This location cannot be changed.



10 Click Next.

11 If you select Database, the Database server window will appear:

12 Enter the User name and Password to log on to the SQL database server, and click Next.



Note: The User name entered must be the name of an administrator of the SQL Server.13 In the Ready to Install window, click Install to begin the installation process.

14 During the installation process, the Installing SmarTeam Design Express for CATIA window indicates the progress of the installation.

15 In the Installation Complete window, click Finish to exit the installation process.

SmarTeam Design Express for CATIA is installed and ready for use.


Chapter 5: Post-Installation

After the SmarTeam Design Express for CATIA software has been installed, you must perform the following post-installation tasks as described in this chapter:

1 Use the Database Connection Manager to verify that:

the client is connected to the database

the database SDE-CATIA is the default database

2 In order for SmarTeam to work with CATIA, you need to set up the CATIA environment. (refer to Setting the CATIA Environment).

3 You must set the SmarTeam for CATIA Options (refer to Configuring SmarTeam for CATIA Options).

4 The configuration key, Catia.ExposeMode needs to be changed in the Overide level to Domain and the value specified to "NO" (refer to SmarTeam Configuration Settings).

5 Configure the CATIA settings (refer to Configuring CATIA Settings).

6 In order for SmarTeam to work with CATIA, you must specify the SmarTeam Parts Catalog location (refer to CATIA Catalog Registration ).

7 After registering your CATIA Parts Catalog, your CATIA macros must now be registered (refer to CATIA Macros registration).

8 Create a CATIA Macro Icon (refer to Creating CATIA Macro Icons).

Setting the CATIA EnvironmentIn order for SmarTeam to work with CATIA, you need to set up the CATIA environment.

To use the CATIA Environment Editor to set up the CATIA environment:

1 Click Start, CATIA, Tools, Environment Editor V5R16.

2 In the Environment Editor Main window

Right-click CATCollectionStandard and scroll to Edit Variable.

Enter C:\Program Files\ SmarTeam\SDE_CATIA\CONFIG

Right-click CATCollectionStandard, scroll to Save and Exit

Configuring SmarTeam for CATIA Options

Setting SmarTeam Configuration Options

To set the SmarTeam Configuration Options:

1 From SmarTeam, log in as Admin, select Admin, Administrator Options…, as shown below.



2 In the Administrator Options window, select Life Cycle Options….

3 In the Life Cycle Options window:

Select Out of Vault tab

Select Last revision policy for overwrite local files upon Check Out/Copy

Click OK



SmarTeam Configuration SettingsThe Catia.ExposeMode key needs to be changed in the Overide level to Domain and the value specified to"NO".

To change the system configuration key, Catia.ExposeMode:

1 From SmarTeam, Administrator Tools, System Configuration Editor:

Scroll to Applications, Integrations, CATIA

Choose the Expose mode key

Select Add Value

Choose Domain from the Overide Level and enter "NO" in the Value field

Save Changes and Log Out

Configuring CATIA Settings

Setting CATIA Options

To set the CATIA settings:

1 From the left pane of CATIA Options, scroll to Options, Infrastructure, Part Infrastructure.

Click the General tab

Select Use root context in assembly.

From the Part Infrastructure option:

Click the Display tab

Select the following in the Specification Tree, Constraints, Parameters, and Relations



2 In the Product Structure option:

Click the Product Structure tab

In Part Number, select Manual input.

3 In the Nodes Customization tab, enter in all Customized Display options, #PN# to display the product structure.



4 From the Tree Customization tab, verify that Parameters are activated to Yes in the Specification Tree Order.

5 In the Compatibility Options, select Graphic Formats.

From the Export (Save As) field, select PDF and click Configuration.

From the Advance Configuration window, select Save as one PDF file and click OK



6 In the Assembly Design Option:

Click General tab

From Update propagation depth, select All the levels.

7 In the Drafting Options:

Click the Layout tab.

In the Background View, create a path for accessing the title block, C:\Program Files\SMARTEAM\SDE_CATIA\.CATIA TitleBlock in order to define the drawing frame



8 In the Annotation and Dress-Up tab:

Define the Balloon Creation numbering for the BOM to be Part number

9 To work with the Analysis and Simulation Options window, the user needs to create a local temp directory. From the Analysis and Simulation Options:

Click the External Storage tab.

Select both, the Default CATAnalysisResults File Folder and Default CATAnalysisComputations File Folder, to Always

Enter in both, the Default CATAnalysisResults File Folder and Default CATAnalysisComputations File Folder, the path of the local temp directory in the Open field



10 In the General Options:

Click the Document tab.

Define the search order for document. Note that the order of the values is important, SmarTeam must always be on top.

Click OK

Exit CATIA



CATIA Catalog Registration In order for SmarTeam to work with CATIA, you must specify the SmarTeam Parts Catalog location.

11 Open CATIA.

12 Click Start, Mechanical Design, Assembly Design.

13 The CATIA Parts Catalog Browser, located on the lower right, is possibly hidden beneath 3 different icons, drag and drop those icons away towards the center of the window.

The Catia Parts Catalog Browser is now exposed.

Click CATIA Parts Catalog Browser located on the lower right



14 From the Catalog Browser:

Click Open

The Browse Icon appears on the CATIA main window

15 Click File from the Browse Icon

The File Selection window appears

Select Market.catalog by entering C:\Program Files\ SMARTEAM\SDE_CATIA\CATIA Catalog Directory

Click Open



CATIA Macros registrationYou must register your macros.

In order to register your macros use the following procedure:

1 From the CATIA main window:

Click Tools, Macro, Macros

2 From the Macros windows:

Click Macro Libraries

3 From the Macro Libraries, select VBA Projects

To add a script to the VBA Project Library, choose a script from the CurrentLibraries

Click Add existing library



4 In the Open a VBA Project window:

Select a script from C:\Program Files\SMARTEAM\SDE_CATIA\CATIA Scripts

Click Open

5 Repeat this procedure for all 3 scripts.

Creating CATIA Macro Icons

To create a CATIA Macro icon as a toolbar command, use the following procedure:

1 Select a CATIA Macro Library from the Macro Libraries

Click Close



2 From the CATIA Toolbar, right-click and select Customize.

3 In the Customize window:

Select Commands tab

Select Macros

The macro in the selected library appears

Click Show properties, and then Icon



4 From the Icon browser:

Choose an Icon and from the Customize window, drag and drop the new macro to the target toolbar.

Notes: To remove a command from the toolbar, drag and drop it back into the Command list. To assign additional macros, repeat steps 1 to 4.
