Mr. Siddiqur Rahman Choudhury, Honorable Chairman, Board of Directors, SMC and SMC Enterprise Limited has praised the contribution of Community Sales Agents (CSAs) in the society. The Chairman made these remarks while attending a CSA meeting at Baraigram in Natore district on October 19 and at Kamalganj in Moulvibazar district on October 24, 2018.CSAs are women entrepreneurs selected from rural communities. They visit the households to disseminate public health information and sell SMC’s public health priority products. They are a major part of the “Notun Din” Community Mobilization program of SMC. Mr. Choud-hury praised the CSAs for stepping out of house for the welfare of the society and generating income for their fami-lies.

Hon’ble Chairman visited Rajshahi, Rangpur and Bogura Area Offices from October 17 - 19, 2018 where Regional

Manager, North and Sales Managers presented their achievements and ongoing sales and program activities. He highly appreciated the efforts of all team members of the North region for taking additional initiatives to strengthen the market share of our new products. Mr. Choudhury also visited a Blue Star Provider at Gobindagonj in Gaibandha and attended a meeting of Married Women of Reproductive Age (MWRA) in Lalpur, Natore. Mr. Md. Ali Reza Khan, Man-aging Director & CEO and Mr. Toslim Uddin Khan, Chief of Program Operations of SMC accompanied the Chairman.

Mr. Choudhury also visited SMC’s sales and program opera-tions in Sylhet from October 23-24, 2018. Mr. Sayedur Rahman, General Manager, Sales and Field Promotion, SMC EL accompanied him during his visit. He visited Sylhet Area Office on October 23 and a Blue Star outlet at Mogla Bazar under South Surma Upazila the following day.

RTV SMC recognized outstanding child development contributors

The Grand Finale of the RTV SMC MoniMix Award-2018 was held in Dhaka on December 7, 2018 to honor the outstanding contributors in the child development sector of Bangladesh. The award giving ceremony was televised live on RTV while the Daily Kaler Kantho published special features about this event. Three individuals and three organizations were awarded this year. From the individual category, Ms. Nazia Jabeen for publishing Braille books for

visually impaired children; Mr. Morshedul Islam, film director; Mr. Ali Imam, children’s writer received MoniMix Award while Kendrio Khelaghor, Kolshindur Primary School and Bidyananda Founda-tion were given the awards in the organi-zational category. The awardees pledged to continue their work for the better-

The Pharmaceutical Division of SMC Enterprise Ltd started its journey in August 2017 with the key objective of “No one should suffer, especially the less-privileged due to lack of affordable quality medicine.” The goal of SMC’s pharmaceutical business is providing

quality medicine for all segments of the population including those with limited income. It promotes 22 products in the market which includes antibiotic, anti-ulcerant, NSAIDs, anti-histamine, anti-asthmatic, anti-spasmodic and mineral supplement. These drugs belong to both the OTC category as well as the selective therapeutic class.

In November 2018, SMC Pharmaceutical Division has launched

the first biological product – Aziday tablet (Azithromycin 500 mg). This drug is prescribed for the treatment of community-acquired pneumonia, pharyngitis, tonsillitis, acute otitis media, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and uncomplicated skin and skin structure infection.

Our Pharma Division is moving forward with the philosophy “Profit must primar-ily contribute to social betterment.”

SMC EL launched first biological product

SMC joins USAID’s MSNP journey

SMC has launched a component of USAID’s Strengthening Multisectoral Nutrition Programming (MSNP) project through Implementation Science Activity on October 24, 2018. The project is funded by USAID, led by FHI 360

partnering with Care Bangladesh, AIRN, PHD, SMC and LifeChord. The project will apply a mixed methods research approach to assess the effect of different nutrition interven-tions by the Government of Bangladesh, NGOs, and the private sector to enhance nutritional status of children under two years in Bangladesh.

In this context, SMC organized a day-long orientation program with the MSNP project staff to share activities of SMC along with MSNP program activities. Core program staff of SMC also attended the session. FHI 360 has provided technical support for conducting the orientation program. Mr. Toslim Uddin Khan, Chief of Program Opera-tions (CPO) of SMC advised the key officials of SMC to assist MSNP staff for implementing the proposed MSNP activities smoothly.

SMC inaugurated its new Training Room, Cafeteria and revamped website at a simple ceremony at its head office in Dhaka on December 5, 2018. Located at Level–18 of SMC Tower, the Training Room and cafete-ria consists of a total floor area of 3,000 sqft. The training room can

accommodate 36 persons at a time and is equipped with modern facilities including sound system and multime-dia. Besides SMC’s own training programs, external users may also rent this venue for training, workshop, conference, seminar and symposium through our admin department. The

cafeteria has seating arrangements for 64 people. In addition, a dynamic and interactive website as opposed to the previous one was also re-launched in the ceremony. The new site has SMC’s all social pages and web portals associated. It now ensures higher data security and updated contents of SMC and SMC EL. Apart from this, the career and e-tender page of this new site have been made more user-friendly.

SMC’s Dhaka West Area Office organized a school activation program on personal hygiene management and promoted ‘Taste Me’ as a refreshing drink. The program was held at Kaliakair Pilot Girls' High School in Kaliakair under Gazipur district on October 29, 2018. A total of 364 female students attended the program. It was an excellent platform to promote the use of sanitary napkins in general and Joya in particular as an essential part of menstrual hygiene management.

Pilot Girls' High School, attended the function as the chief guest. At the end of the session, SMC offered ‘Taste Me’ drinks to all students along with a 200gm ‘Taste Me’ pack as a gift. The program was very successful and the girls were very happy to obtain knowledge about health and hygiene along with the TasteMe sample. Hygiene management promoted

SMC’s Dhaka East Area Office organized a seminar with the Graduate Doctors of Munshiganj General Hospital on November 28, 2018 at a local restaurant in Munshiganj. The seminar focused on promoting SMC’s micro-nutrient powder MoniMix to the local physicians. MoniMix is a home fortifica-tion strategy to improve nutritional status of children from 6 months up to 5 years. Dr. Md. Habibur Rahman, Civil Surgeon, Munshiganj attended the Seminar as the Chief Guest. The seminar was also attended by Dr. Aktar Hossain (Bappi), President of Bangladesh Medical Association, Munshiganj Branch and Dr. Md. Golam Mohiuddin, Sr. Consultant (Surgery), Munshiganj General Hospital. Dr. Dewan Nizam Uddin, Consultant (Paediatrics), Munshi-ganj General Hospital was the Keynote Speaker of the Seminar. Regional Manager, Dhaka Division Mr. Chandra Nath Mandal and Sales Manager, Dhaka East, Late Mr. Md. Jamil Uddin represented SMC at the seminar.

SMC’s distribution gets new energySMC Enterprise Limited has recruited Territory Sales Officers (TSO) for overseeing its distribution sales. A total of 20 young officers have been recruited to manage and supervise the activities of 120 Distributors as well as Sales Representatives for household product sales to non-pharmacy outlets across the country. The newly appointed TSOs attended a training session at the SMC head office in Dhaka on November 6, 2018. They were briefed and provided with job description, list of daily functions to be performed at field level and were given Sales Manual with details of SMC products and other relevant documents.
