Accreditations and Quality Standards

At SMI Group we recognise the importance of managing Health and Safety, Quality Control and conforming to the required accreditations that relate to our industry. We employee dedicated staff to manage these area’s to ensure our “set goals” for compliance to these standards/ accreditations are carried out and maintained throughout the organisation.

Our FacilitiesSMI Group is located in Haslemere, Surrey and operates from a custom-built Head Office. With over 35,000 sq ft of warehousing we hold large stocks to ensure guarantee of supply.

We have the advantage of managing distribution from one site which gives us complete control of orders from the point they’re received to the point they’re dispatched.Because of regular customer meetings we have a large conference/showroom area which can hold large numbers – we welcome visits!

In-house Embroidery

SMI Group has one of the largest embroidery production plants in the UK.

The operation is located at our head office in Surrey and has full time staff running the department. The company invested in the latest hi-tech machinery to ensure our branded products are recognised for their quality. The company has recently purchased it’s fourth “8 head Barudan” machine which gives us a total of 32 running heads. Our output capacity is now 3000 – 4000 garments per day.

Our delivery promise on embroidery is 4 days and for heat-sealing is 48 hours. We also carry out all heat-sealing in-house which is run within a separate department to embroidery

Product Testing

Although there is no current legislation concerning the expected lifespan of safety helmets, SMI highly recommend they are replaced every 2-5 years. Excessive wear and tear will drastically reduce both the suggested lifespan and helmet performance should it be put to the test. If your helmet becomes cut or badly scratched it should be discarded immediately.

Every day in the European construction industry, one person dies due to a fall from height.

Health and Safety legislation states that fall protection measures must be put in place by the employer of any person working at height where a fall hazard exists.

If it is not feasible to eliminate the hazard using a collective system, then a personal protective equipment system must be selected and used, be it for restraint, work positioning or fall arrest purposes.

This system consists of a full body harness, an intermediate attachment and an anchorage point located close to the work area.

The personal protective equipment in this section includes fall protection systems designed to save the life of the worker (category 3 - PPE against mortal or serious and irreversible danger).

BS8599-1 standard compliant kits have been created as a result of years of research to ensure that all required items

are available in sensible quantities. Many new items have been added for employees practical safety and the most

frequently used items are stocked in higher quantities. The BS8599-1 kits have proved extremely popular with our

customers who have never looked back. The Health and Safety (First Aid) regulations 1981 states:

“An employer shall provide or ensure that there are provided such equipment and facilities as are adequate and appropriate in the circumstances for enabling First Aid to be rendered to his employees if they are injured or become ill at work” …

BS8599-1 compliant kits are now the only safe and clear way for an employer to meet their obligations.

NB. It is important to frequently check the contents in First Aid Kits and restock after use.

The Health and Safety (Fist Aid) Regulations 1981, amended in July 1990 and again in March 1997 state that “Employers should decide what to include in the First Aid Container from information gathered during their assessment of First Aid needs”.

First Aid provision at work will therefore largely depend on the type of work being carried out, location of workforce and size of site.

Generally the standard kit, listed on the below, should be regarded as the minimum. Exceptions would be:

1) Persons travelling away from the main establishment,

2) Areas of low hazard, where a small kit may be

proven minimal accident record).
