About the Primary Gateway

Thuraya's Primary Gateway is situated in Sharjah and is responsible forThuraya's entire network in addition to serving as the mobile satellitesystems' main digital exchange. The Primary Gateway houses thesatellite operation centre, which monitors and controls satellitemovement, ensuring the ongoing maintenance of satellites in geo-synchronous orbit.

The striking glass structure comprises the satellite control facilities andthe gateway station. The satellite control facilities includes the satelliteoperation center, uplink beacon station and satellite payload centralpoint, while the gateway station includes the gateway stationsubsystem, network switching subsystem and the advancedoperations center and operations support subsystem. Outside theprimary gateway building are the primary dish (c-band antennae)and the back up dish whose function s to command the satellite.

Billed as the only such facility in the Middle East region, Thuraya’sPrimary Gateway station provides the necessary interface with otherThuraya gateway (via satellite) and public terrestrial networks
