Do something exciting this summer

Young people in the Johnson Fold area are getting the chance to have their say about what activities they would like in their local area as part of some outreach being conducted in Johnson Fold. Youth Workers from Xtreme Inclusion have been working in partnership with local ward councillors, Bolton at Home and Euthopia to consult young people living in the area to get their views first hand.

Music, dance, football and boxing seem to be top of the wish list for the young people spoken to, and work is now underway to look at using this feedback to set up an activity on Thursday evenings (6-8pm) which will give young people in the area another activity to do. Residents will be kept updated with the plans through local promotion and distribution of flyers.

As temperatures are set to rise over the coming weeks, the Smithills Neighbourhood Policing Team are urging residents to keep their homes and businesses safe from burglars by following these simple tips:

Keep your doors and windows locked. Ensure you have the back door locked when answering the front

door. Don’t give someone the chance to sneak in while you are distracted.

Keep house and car keys out of sight. Keep valuables such as I-pods, cameras, mobile phones or laptops

out of sight, and away from windows or doors. Mark all your valuable belongings with your post code and house

number, or the first two letters of your house name, with an ultraviolet pen

Leave lights on if you are going to be out in the evening – a light in bedroom or bathroom, rather than just the hallway, is a good idea.

Consider fitting security lighting at the front and back of your home. If you have a burglar alarm, use it. Register your property at www.immobilise.com

Following a recent increase garage/shed break’s in the area we are asking residents to make sure they pay particular attention to the security of their sheds, garages and out-houses. For more crime prevention advice contact Greater Manchester Police 101 or visit www.gmp.police.uk and search under Crime Reduction Advice. In an emergency always call 999.

PC John Gregory from the Smithills policing team says: “I am appealing to members of the public to make sure they leave their homes and vehicles secure at all times. Please don’t be tempted to leave windows and doors open if the weather is warm. A few simple steps can drastically reduce the chance of you becoming the next victim of crime”.

This year, Bolton One celebrates Bolton’s diverse communities by hosting a community 5K fun run on 8th July to support local charities.

Keep burglars out

Bolton One charity fun run

Residents can expect to see posters up in the local area to mark the launch of a Greater Manchester wide Domestic Abuse Campaign in the run up to the Euros 2012. Previous years have told us that the number of cases of domestic abuse rise during large sporting activities and work is ongoing to raise awareness around how to report domestic abuse and the support available for victims and witnesses. Bolton Womens Aid offers support to any women or young person affected by domestic abuse. 01204 365677 For more information visit www.endthefear.co.uk
