History of smithing

Smithing is one of the oldest crafts. It was basic village craft. Smiths were making most of useful things and tools.

Smithing in Slovakia

Smiths was following old kelt‘s traditions.

Making perfect tools was realized by complexity techniques - welding, damasking, tempering and more. On break of 8-9 century there was one special village in Slovakia – the village of smiths knife makers.

Tools

In traditional manual small industry they were using only hand tools – hammers and anvils, tongs, punches, chisels.

They had forge with sacks and shovels.

Later they were using also mechanical tools.

Today is very popular artistic smithing. A man can buy forged fence, candlesticks or jewellery. That all can be forged.
