Libraries for Derbyshire: Public
Library Service Strategy Consultation
We have launched our 12 week public consultation for our proposed public li-brary service strategy Libraries for Derby-shire. You can complete our consultation questionnaire at www.derbyshire.gov.uk/librariesforderbyshire
As part of the consultation we have or-ganised drop in sessions across all 45 libraries in Derbyshire for people to meet with us and to discuss our proposals in person. In addition, in the 20 communi-ties proposed for community managed libraries we have arranged focus groups for anyone interested in getting involved to give their views, discuss any practical-ities and challenges and decide if they want to take their interest further.
We are also holding a Mobile Library Service focus group to look at alternative methods of delivery for the Mobile Li-brary Service. For example, community organisations running the mobile library service or possibly providing transport to the nearest static library for those that need it.
The Mobile Library Service focus group is on Wednesday 11
th July 6-
8pm at Members Room, County Hall
Matlock.
To read our proposed strategy or to find out more details on all our consultation events, including details on how to book your tickets for the focus group please go to our dedicated library strategy webpage www.derbyshire.gov.uk/librariesforderbyshire

From September we will have a (temporary) third class and a new Year 3/4 teacher (Paris Birkin) has been appointed. We wish her well in her new post here at Stanton. Congratulations to our Year 2, 3 and 4s for representing our school so successfully at the recent Summer sports competition at Bakewell and for winning the cup for ‘Tenacious Teamwork’. We are very proud of our pupils for working so well together and being recognized for this very admira-ble quality. Well done. Fund Raising – Thank you to some of our Year 5 pupils for organizing a cake sale re-cently for our link schools in India. They raised £26. We will ensure that this money is used to support Bhawanapur and Scott Lane schools in Kolkata. MEDICAL ASSISTANCE OFFERED TO PARISH BY DALE VIEW QUARRY
FIRST RESPONDERS
Steve Boam of Dale Head Quarry comments: Quarrying, Construction and the Agriculture industries are inherently dangerous activities and although accidents and serious injuries have dramatically reduced over the years we still work with equipment that can result in catastrophic injuries. Along with this we also have an aging workforce and as we all know the sites tend to be in remote areas. Taking all this into account and looking at the present basic First Aid at Work qualifications, Marshalls PLC took the decision to train all quarry staff across the company with First Person on Scene intermediate training. This course gives skills, knowledge and confidence to help people in life threatening situations.
Our kit bags have defibs, oxygen and a variety of bandages and wound dressings to treat major injuries some of which were developed for use in Afghanistan. As neighbours we perhaps haven’t always seen eye to eye but we are still a community and the skills and equipment we have may just buy some time in the event of a serious incident occurring. The individuals listed below will make them-selves available to the village if needed

Stanton in Peak Parish Council met on 23rd May and re-elected Paul Morris as Chair and Ian Mortimore as Vice-Chair.
Council welcomed County Councillor Jason Atkin to the meeting and discussed (editor note: read: gave him a hard time!) in depth the frustrations with the Highways reporting system for road faults and grit refills as well as the continued problems of lost HGVs due to incorrectly supplied Sat Nav information and inaccurate signage. He promised to raise these issues with officers.
Council received the audited accounts which are now available on our website along with the new GDPR information we are required to publish.
Council has noted that the planned closure of the B5056 section leading to the A6 for road-works at the junction from 18th to 29th June will not only see more cars using the hillside for that period but also that it coincides with the 21st June Summer Solstice traffic issues we face annually. Council next meets on Wednesday 18th July in Stanton in Peak Village Hall 7:30pm.
YOUR PARISH COUNCIL
We still have vacancies for 3 councillors with one year to go until the next parish council elections in 2019.

RACE NIGHT SUCCESS On April 21st Stanton in Peak PTA organ-ised a Race Night in the Village Hall to raise funds for the school. Eight horse races took place on screen throughout the evening. There were opportunities for guests to place £1 bets, and many lucky winners! The Race Night was sponsored by a number of local busi-nesses, and the PTA provided pre-dinner nibbles, and a choice of 3 main courses and a selection of desserts. A magnifi-cent £663.03 was raised for school funds. Thank you to everyone who helped to make this evening a success.

GARDENING TIP FOR JUNE—BY Steve Tompkins LEARN TO LOVE THE SLUGS OF STANTON (AND THE SNAILS OF COURSE)!! I enjoy the beautiful slugs that share our gardens in Stanton! You can’t beat a 7 ½ inch Leopard Slug, Limax maximus. It has a beautiful patterned body just like a leopard or a lemon yellow Limax flavus with blue horns! I just grow plants that slugs don’t eat and rely on a brilliant little book “Garden Plants That Slugs Won’t Eat” by Christine Smeeth. It covers virtually all the garden plants you could name.

Thought for June:
What price peace and contentment? We live in a restless, uncertain and turbulent world. The media bombard us with news which can seem almost designed to make us anx-ious and discontented. News of horror from every corner of the world is made available to us on a daily, if not hourly basis." Stay tuned for the latest update " Psalm 46 is a psalm that reminds us " God is our refuge and strength, a very present in trouble. " It also con-tains sound practical advice " Be still and know that I am God " Slow down, turn off and look to your maker and provider for all real needs says the psalmist. Jesus said "Come unto me, all you who labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. " Matt. 11 v28

Since moving to Youlgrave, early summer has for me become linked with Well Dressing. This year, once again I’m looking forward to being impressed by the skill and creativity of these ‘natural’ artworks. I think for me one of the highlights each year will always be seeing the children’s efforts. My own efforts at natural artwork have been far more mod-est. As a child, I remember my brother and I creating a model desert out of what was left of our lawn one dry summer. And I remem-ber one summer holiday devoted to creating pictures using only chalk from the local hills, and dyes of every colour under the sun that we made from local plants and flowers. I don’t think there is much chance of me be-coming a skilled artist, with natural or any other materials, but what a childhood spent very close to the natural world has given me, is a very deep appreciation of all life, a
strong sense of how all parts of the natural world are linked and depend on one anoth-er, and a keen awareness of how we are part of that system. As a Christian, I care about protecting the environment because the poorest in the world are harmed first and harmed most by climate change, loss of biodiversity and pol-lution. But mostly I care about protecting the environment because I believe that the natu-ral world is created in God’s image, just as thoroughly as humanity is, and that when we damage the natural world, we hurt God, and we destroy part of God’s image in our-selves. So this month my prayer for myself and for each of us, is that we would continually grow in awareness of the world around us, and would learn to love all creation as we love ourselves.
