Alex Rider crashes on the Australian Coast after falling from the space.He is rescued by the USS Kitty Hawk where he recovers from his tripinto space. After going into the military base and camping with someguys he finds himself on an war field by accident.

The criminal gang Scorpia is hired to assassinate eight celebrities whoare hosting a "make poverty history conference on Reef Island , at thesame time as the G8 summit. Their secondary objective is also to makeit look like an accident. Board member of the organization Scorpia andthe head of a powerful Asian snakehead gang, Winston Yu is givencharge of the mission. Two days later, agents of Scorpia break intoa Ministry of Defence weapons research centre and steal a prototypecodenamed "Royal Blue bomb.

After travelling to Bangkok Ash explainsthe mission to him and they decide totake identities of Afghan refugees whohave paid the snakehead to smugglethem into Australia. In this way theycould identify important Snakehead

members and find out how they smugglethe refugees. They are given disguisesand sent to an area in Chinatown to

await contact from the snakehead. Alex was taken to an illegal MuayThai boxing arena by a Snakehead

member and put up against thesnakehead's tou hest fi hter Sunthorn.

The snakehead was still willing to take Ash and Alex to Australia. They goon to Jakarta, Indonesia, the next step of their journey. Despite a brushwith Kopassus, the Indonesian special forces, in the snakehead's toyfactory, Alex and Ash make it to a port, and discover a container ship, theLiberian Star. The two of them are separated and put into separate

containers, which are loaded onto the ship. While the boat is at sea, Alexescapes by using one of his coins, and explores the ship. He eventuallyfinds Royal Blue, and sees Major Yu scanning his fingerprints into a machinethat will give him sole control over the bomb. Once Yu is gone, Alex scanshis own fingerprints into Royal Blue then escapes the ship using anothercoin. After this Ash is caught and held hostage, forcing Alex to surrender.

Alex is then knocked on the head and he falls intounconsciousness and is captured by Yu. When Alex wakes up heis invited to tea with Yu before Alex is sent to a hospital in theAustralian rainforest where he is to be used as a donor for illegalorgan transplants. Alex escapes using his final exploding coin.

After kayaking down the river and being shot at Alex attempts tocontact MI6. Alex discovers that there is no battery in hiswatch, and shorts a circuit from a battery in his trainers and isrescued by MI6. Along with Ben Daniels, Alex is sent as part ofan SAS team to the oil rig where Royal Blue will be detonated.

On the oil rig, Alex and Ben confront Yu and hisassistant; Ben shoots the assistant, who isrevealed to be Ash; he had became a double

agent for Scorpia. Yu escapes and triggers thesinking of Royal Blue. Alex detonates it earlyand it harmlessly goes off. Major Yu is killed inthe resulting shock wave due to his fragile

bone structure, known as osteoporosis.

At the end of the novel, Jack Starbright, Alex'shousekeeper, calls a mysterious person over

for dinner. Alex is surprised to see the guestis Sabina Pleasure, his old friend who moved toSan Francisco after the events ofEagle Strike.
