An Introduction to Snapchat

What is Snapchat?

Snapchat is a social networking app that you can use to share photos and

videos. You can edit your content by adding filters, captions, and even draw

on the content. What makes Snapchat different from other photo and video

sharing apps is that you can view photos only from 1 to 10 seconds. These

photos and videos only last for 24 hours on Snapchat servers after which

they are deleted permanently from our database.

About the document

If your new assignment at work is to handle your company’s Snapchat

account and you don’t know where to begin, then this document is for you.

From installing the app to answering common questions, this document is

your how-to guide when it comes to navigating the world of Snapchat.

Why does your brand need Snapchat?

Snapchat is one of the fastest emerging social media apps with more than 5

It has become important for companies to adopt social media to improve

their brand image. With clever and engaging content, companies too can

move ahead with the times. There are other social media tools that

companies use to spread information, but what makes Snapchat different

from other social media apps is that Snapchat allows your brand to loosen

up and show their lighter side.

Chapter Four

Snapchat in everyday life

Much like “tweets”, “emojis”, “AMA” that have found its way into our day-to-

day conversation, Snapchat, too, has contributed a few terms and concepts

that have become popular among the younger generation.

The Snapchat lingo

Snap: Snaps are photos or “snaps” that you take using Snapchat. A Snap can

be edited by using Snapchat filters to make it more fun and personal. You can

draw on them, write a caption, add an emoji, or use tags based on your

location before sharing it with your friends.

Story: A Story is a collection of Snaps or short videos that form a narrative. A

Story can be visible to your Snapchat friends based on your settings.

Snapchat Score: A Snapchat score is a combination of number of Snaps you

have sent and received. The more Snaps you send and receive, the higher

your score will be.

Snapchat Trophies: Snapchat trophies are achievements you can unlock

when you reach a hidden milestone. Unlocking a Snapchat trophy makes a

hidden emoji available. These trophies are a way to keep Snapchat users

engaged, and encourage them to explore Snapchat to unlock the trophies.

Geofilters: The Snapchat Geofilter is a unique filter option that is available

based on your location. You can access your Geofilter while swiping through

Snapchat’s basic filter options, but to activate a Geofilter you need to share

your location with Snapchat. Unique Geofilters are available only at select

locations. Check out some Geofilters given below.

Now that you are acquainted to the Snapchat lingo, it is time to get Snapping!

Note: To zoom on your subject, focus the camera on the subject, pinch the

area you’d like to focus and spread outward to zoom in. Tap to take

the Snap.

What makes Snapchat a great social media application is that you can edit

your Snap using one of many filters, by writing captions or even drawing on
