Weet-Bix Kids Tryathlon Assembly

The Sanitarium Weet-Bix Kids TRYathlon is a non-competitive triathlon, designed to help kids

aged 7-15 get active in a friendly and supportive environment. Research has shown that

participating in Kids TRY has a marked improvement on self-esteem and confidence.

Year 3 to 5 Swimming Lessons

Students had a lovely time participating in their swimming

lessons this week at the George Bolton Swimming Centre

Burnside. Swimming is part of the Health and Physical Activity

Curriculum at Rose Park Primary School.

Rose Park Sphero Grand Prix

Round One of the 'Rose Park Sphero Grand Prix' took

place on Thursday, with two heats featuring some of

our Year 6 & 7 students. After a number of practice

laps, where drivers collaborated with their Support

Crew to discuss angles, direction and speed in order

to determine the best line to take, we moved to

recording our lap times and developing our Leaders

Board. Discussion is underway with some budding

designers to have the track further enhanced with a

range of obstacles, including jumps and tunnels,

creating an even more challenging track to

navigate.

Bebras Computational Thinking Challenge

In March, students from Years 3 -7 are invited to take

part in the online Bebras Computational Thinking

Challenge. The challenge is open twice a year for

two weeks and is designed to promote

computational thinking skills in a way that highlights

student abilities. It is made up of 15 questions

ranging in difficulty, with certificates of participation

presented. In the first challenge of the year, students

who receive full marks are placed on the Honour

Roll and are sent a special certificate from CSIRO.

Registration forms have been sent out via your class

Seesaw, and p l ease em ai l m e at

[email protected] if you have

any further questions.

Sustainability Day—Friday 28 February

On Friday 28th February from 4-6pm we will be celebrating the opening of the new veggie

patch, and the schools new sustainability initiatives with a family picnic on the oval. It will be

an easy Friday night dinner for families - with food on offer through Little Sparrow and wine

orders in advance through Guthrie and Lambrook wines. Bring a picnic rug and come ready

for a relaxed evening. There will also be a variety of stalls and information about the schools

new bin system. Proceeds raised will go to Trees for Life to aid bush fire recovery.

Check the last page of the Snapshot for more details.

Year 2 Update

After much anticipation… last week the Year 2 classes visited the Life Education Van. Our session was called ‘Growing Good Friends’. We explored what

contributes to positive healthy relationships and personal wellbeing.

This supported our current unit of Inquiry- ‘Exploring my physical, emotional and social self helps shape my personality’. It also helped to reinforce our Classroom Essential Agreements.

Of course, seeing Harold at the end was everyone’s favourite part!

The Year 2’s have been unpacking their first unit of Inquiry topic for

the term ‘Who We Are’ and have been having a lot of fun doing so!

Room 11 kicked off the term with an ‘All About Me’ presentation,

sharing information about themselves, their interests and of course

their families.

After getting to know one another, we began to unpack a strand of our IB profiles, linked to

our current unit of Inquiry, ‘Caring’. We discussed what it meant to be caring, who we care

for the most, and explored what it meant to have human relationships including our family

and friends.

Students in Room 12 have visited the Kitchen Garden,

presented the first JP Assembly, with a focus on our School

Values and discovered that everyone has an invisible bucket.

We can all be Bucket Fillers by following our School Values; be

honest, be respectful, be caring and be courageous. You can

be a Bucket Filler too! :)
