Coming up this week…… Week Beginning – 6/11/2017 Monday: Tuesday: P&C Meeting 5.30pm Wednesday: Kinder Orientation 9.30am-10.30am Thursday: CCOS Science Enrichment Day Working Bee 3.30pm Friday: Summer PSSA CAEC Excursion-Botany Bay

Principal’s Report Kinder Orientation Thank you parents who attended our first Kindergarten Orientation last Wednesday. Our second session will be this Wednesday, 7th November. We will have information presented to parents from guest speakers from Jillys, our P&C, OLCS Playgroup and the Home School Liaison Officer. Pedestrian Safety Children are vulnerable road users. Anywhere where there is a potential for moving vehicles is a potentially dangerous traffic situation for children. This includes residential areas, car-parks, at traffic lights, along footpaths, pedestrian and other crossings, driveways, quiet streets, and busy streets.

Although children may think they can handle crossing a road by themselves, remember that children:

are easily distracted and focus on only one aspect of what is happening

are smaller and harder for drivers to see

are less predictable than other pedestrians

cannot accurately judge the speed and distance of moving vehicles

cannot accurately predict the direction sounds are coming from

are unable to cope with sudden changes in traffic conditions

do not understand abstract ideas - such as road safety

are unable to identify safe places to cross the road

tend to act inconsistently in and around traffic

Parents and caregivers have a key role in educating their children about road safety. Children learn about road safety largely by experience. Whenever crossing roads, it is an idea to talk about when and why it is safe to cross the road with your children so they can gain a good understanding of road safety issues. Please take care crossing in front of our school.

3/4V Frankenstein Artwork 3/4V were definitely in the mood this Halloween to create some spooky art! We used oil pastels and paint to create these monsters! These particular artworks were created by Ray and Amy.

1/2K Sounds 1/2K participate in a variety of activities to learn their sounds each week. In these last two weeks, we have been learning the sounds er, ir and ur. We think we know our sounds really well now. Here are some of the activities we enjoy.

5/6H Maturity Oaths This Term 5/6H have been focusing on improving their levels of maturity and improving their ability to make well thought out decisions. The children read a number of poems related to maturity and chose specific vocabulary to help them write their oaths. These oaths will be placed on our leadership tree. They did a great job! Below are some examples of their work.

All about me... by 1/2 H 1/2 H has been writing about themselves. I wonder if you recognise any of them. Hi, my name is Majd Chehade. I live with my mum and dad and three sisters. Their names are Boutol and Zaynab and Nassab. Now I live on a farm in Rossmore because it’s near my school. I have dark, black hair and light brown eyes and I am seven years old. I am good at helping Mum and Dad, racing on my bike with my sister and cousin and I’m good on the I-pads. When I grow up I am going to be a police officer because I like them and they can solve problems. Hi, my name is Shania Milly-Rose Holloway. I have four sisters and Mum and Dad. When I grow up I want to be a vet so when animals get hurt they will feel better. I want my own car and the colour will be red. I want ten puppies. When they are alone they will have company with their owners. Hi, my name is Raymond. I have 1 sister. I have a mum and a dad too. I live in Kemps Creek with my family. I have short brown hair and dark brown eyes. I am 6 years old and I am short. I am really good at riding bicycles and scooters. I am good at climbing and jumping too.
