KEY TEAM MEMBERS AND ADVISORS
• The Importer will confirm the exporter that his banker shall co-accept the bill drawn
by the exporter.
• Exporter shall inform to the lender the name of the importer-their bank and country
before they want to avail this facility for lenders internal approval.
• Importer bank has to irrevocably undertake to effect payments on due date.
• The avalising bank becomes the primary obligator. The avalised notes will be issued
to the exporter, who will discount the notes with financing bank.
Bill Discounting under Avalization/ Co acceptance Scheme
MEANING
• The word “AVAL” in French means endorsement. A usance Bill of Exchange
accepted by the buyer does not guarantee payment on maturity and hence it is not
readily accepted for discounting or as collateral in a loan. The exporter may have
arranged to have the accepted draft to be ‘Avalised‘ by the importer’s bank – the bank
adds its endorsement as guarantee of payment. The avalised term draft can be readily
discounted.
• It is the purchase of receivables (arising from an underlying export of goods),
guaranteed (Avalised) by the importer’s bank, without recourse to the exporter. It is
done for export bills on DA basis only.
