SPORTKING GROUP OF COMPANIES

Sportking Group established in the year 1977, is a vertically integrated group having in house capacities for yarn spinning, yarn dyeing & processing, knitting both flat and circular knits, fabric processing, dyeing and garment development, using state of the art machinery.

As a result of which they are able to offer, to the international market, high quality garments and shorter lead times at very competitive prices. They are completely geared up to welcome the new era of exports with the onset of the new age of exports for India. They have made an effort, to upgrade their capacities and work systems apart from integrating their selves to be one of the few garment manufacturers who spin yarns, dye fibers, yarns & fabrics, apart from garment manufacturing which is done in 7 different locations in and around Ludhiana (Punjab), and Baddi (H.P). The total turnover of the group is in excess of 3000 million per year.

SPORTKING YARNYarn manufacturing is the major activity of Sportking and they are equipped with latest state of the art machinery. Sportking is producing wide range of grey & dyed cotton synthetic and blended yarns. Their products are well known and recognized in the international and domestic markets for quality, consistency and innovation.

Their international markets consists of Bangladesh, Korea, Morocco, Egypt, Kenya, Brazil, Portugal, Peru, Czech Republic, Nigeria, Ethiopia, China, Ukraine, Serbia, Italy, Russia, Chile, Taiwan, Venezuela, Colombia and Argentina.

CLASSIC WEARS PRIVATE LIMITED

INTRODUCTIONClassic Wears Pvt. Ltd. was introduced as a manufacturer of hosiery and knitwear on 19-01-1988. Classic Wear is managed by a group under Mr. Raj Awasthi.Presently, they have production Capacity of approx. 1, 50,000 Pcs per month.

PRODUCTThey specialize in knitwear for Menswear, Women’s wear and Kids wear in northern India.They expertise in making different kind of structures like plain, fully structured, intarsia etc. and fully fashioned as well as cut and sew garments.

CUSTOMERSThey export to United States of America and European countries through buying agencies like Triburg, Cascade, Landmark-Dubai, East West, Unisource etc., and for brands like Pierre Cardin, London Fog, Nature Life, tom Tailor & Lyle Scott, Chaps, Blass port.Work for domestic retailers like Lee Cooper, Jealous Jeans, Pantaloons, Shoppers Stop, Life Style, Pepe Jeans, Westside, Peter England, and Big Bazar. They also have their own brand named Sportking  and  Mentor through more than 80 showrooms & distributors all over India. Also they have marketing license of all Disney characters for sweaters in India.

INFRASTRUCTUREClassic Wear Pvt. Ltd. is well equipped with every type of yarns and processes, well trained and skill masters, supervisors, and labors.

Latest Hi-tech machines which conform to the necessary quality standards, with the help of these facilities the company is able to meet buyer’s deadlines & requirements.

Stoll Machines: They have computerized knitting machines of Stoll in 5 guage,8 guage,10 guage,12 gauge and multi gauge. Also they have fully fashion and hand flat machines for making flat knitted sweaters.

Cutting Machines:  They have Morgan/Italian automatic CAD CAM systems for fabric cutting.

Embroidery Machine: They have computerized embroidery machines of Barudan, ZSK and other models, for quality and perfection for latest fashion.

Printing Machine: They have M&R and TAS Machine for computerized automatic quality printing with all value addition like foil & flock printing as well as digital printing.

Stitching Machines: They have stitching machines of Juki, Pegasus and other brands.

Linking Machines: They have linking machines of different guages

Other value addition: They have some decorative automatic computerized machines for high fashion garments like- Swarovski machines and chenille plutch cording embroidery.

DESIGNING & PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT

The Company has a full-fledged in house design team for design development. These exclusive designs are used in the manufacture of garments for exports & domestic. This exercise results in the creation of exciting collections each season.

PRODUCTION & PRODUCTION PLANNING

Production facilities are vertically integrated to facilitate all the processes involved in garment manufacture in-house. The company has invested heavily in state-of-the-art machinery; these investments therefore contribute to higher efficiency in productivity & market for lower costs of production –a benefit that is passed on to the customer.

MERCHANDISING The major function of the merchandising department is to act as an information house by coordinating between the buyer and the manufacturing facilities, i.e. Yarn and accessories stores, production department .This department is responsible for sending various samples to the buyer and following up for quick approval and also receive the original patterns (or specification sheet) sample and working instruction from buyer. They keep a database for the lead times taken in sample approval by various buyers. This department constantly interacts with the other departments to ensure that the delivery dates are met. This department also involves in costing of the garment. They have very simple process of costing.Qty. of yarn in KG -A

QUALITYGarment manufacture technologist trained in ‘Garment Manufacturing Technology’ overlook quality in garment manufacturing. Before a garment is produced there are systems set down to ensure that the manufacturing process once begun goes on smoothly & without flaws. Their quality inspection team is highly educated to insure best quality delivery.

YARN INWARD & STORAGE All the yarn that comes into the factory is stored at yarn store according to the different lots of different shades.These yarns are inspected after making panels, if orders are for exports the knitted panels are sent to buyer for shade approval after checking.

KNITTINGIn fabric construction unit, knitting is the initial and dominant production process, daily production is approx. 4000-5000 Pcs. In hand flat knitting, they knit panels for one whole garment, they knit approximately 5-8 garment per day depending on the designs. More complicated structured/fancy knits are made on Computerized knitting M/Cs. Production capacity from approx. 1800-2200 Garments per day. They also have Fully Fashioned Semi-Automatic M/Cs.

PANEL INSPECTIONAll knitted panels are checked by skilled labors using light fitted tables, any kind of small defects are altered through mending but panels with major defects are rejected.

PANEL WASHING & PRESSINGAfter getting knitted, all paired panel (front and back) are attached to each other through loose stitching then they make bundles of each lot , machine wise and goes for washing to get rid of shrinkage.

CUTTINGAfter that its goes for cutting. Each sample piece is cut independently according to the pattern approved by the buyer. There are 24 cutting labors & 3 cutting masters under one head cutting & pattern master.

PRINTING & EMBROIDERY

If required according to the design it goes for printing and embroidery, they do different kind of embroidery like:

Hand Embroidery with aari work also. Machine Embroidery : Single needle lock stitch and Chain Stitch embroidery

machines Computerized Embriodery:. They have 12 head embroidery machines, imported

logo machines and 8 head machine on which they mostly do their sampling. For printing they do screen printing.

SEWING & LINKINGProcess used in assembling the garments is: Generally they use Single needle lock stitch machines in sewing process for attachment of shoulder only. In some style, they use sewing machines for attaching trims & accessories, other wise whole garment is assembled through Linking ( it’s a process in which they interlink knitted loops of one panel to another panel.)

They also use overlock machines, to finish the edges before going for linking ( 5 needle or 3 needle , depend upon requirement)Also manual hemming (Turpai) is done after all these processes to give finishing to the ends of Rib at Neck, Bottom line & cuff.

INITIAL CHECKINGAfter completion of assembling of garments, for any kind of defect during sewing & linking checking is done , even they check the measurement required , any required alteration is resolved on the spot.

FINAL WASHING AND PRESSINGIn washing there is a proper process of washing in which they use mild detergent & softener

to get required hand feel of the garment. Also they give special Treatment on demand to the garment like anti pilling treatment or anti static treatment & then tumble dried on required heat according to the blend.After washing its goes for pressing that is done on flat Bed steam press for required shape and size, it’s a very important stage where look of the final garment is to be defined. There are 20 Flat bed steam press.

CHECKING, FINISHING & PACKINGAt last it goes for final checking and finishing.There are many steps from checking to Packing, like- labeling, thread Cutting, checking for improper stitch, stains, mending, shapes, measurements, tagging etc.If they find any faults its returned back to the respective departments for alteration.

CONCLUSIONIt was great learning experience at Sportking, Ludhiana, I got lot of exposure on the inside working of industry. In terms of knitwear sportking has lot to offer in terms of new technology for knitwear production.

Learning the different software’s for knitwear development and making samples of various designs, I have got to learn something or other from all the staff members of the company, who have been very cooperative with me.
