SNIFFERS FOR MOBILE PHONES PRESENTED BY RAHUL SINGH

SNIFFERS?

• The sniffer is basically a transceiver that works in the frequency which is in the special unused range that is operated by the service provided.

INTRODUCTION

The main scope is to detect the lost mobiles.

For the detection of lost mobile SNIFFER plays a vital role.

The sniffer device has to be designed precisely and size should be reduced for easy mobility for the purpose of detection.

IMEI

Stands for International Mobile Equipment Identity.

15 digit unique code that is used to identify the GSM/DCS/PCS phone.

EIR determines whether the phone can log on to the network to make and receive calls.

DESIGN FOR SNIFFER

  SNIFFER BASE STATION

Frequency that has to be generated by the transceiver section is around 900MHz range which is a VHF range.

Cooling that has to be provided to the circuit

while designing the circuit that is to be operated at 900MHz range of frequency section.

DESIGN OF UNIDIRECTIONAL ANTENNA

Acts as the eyes for the sniffer for the purpose of the detecting the lost mobile phones.

Has both the transmitting and the receiving antenna.

Requires less power transmitter.

SOFTWARE FOR TRACKING

• The programming is done with C or Java.

• The mobile phone that is lost has certain IMEI number that is embedded in the chip.

• The software that is to be designed in such a way that the software has the input as the IMEI number of the lost mobile phone .

Working of sniffers

The working of sniffers is of two phases:

Before Sniffer increases the frequency. After Sniffer increases the frequency.

Before Sniffer increases the frequency

By default Mobile devices always connects to the BTS(Base Station) and MSC(Mobile Switching Center).

Now the sniffer increases the frequency and amplitude.

As shown in the figure in the next slide.

Before Sniffer increases the frequency

After Sniffer increases the frequency

As shown in the figure in the next slide.

The other mobile devices of the surroundings will not be connected.

So, only the particular user with the IMEI will be connected to the particular frequency.

After Sniffer increases the frequency

MERITS

• Recovery of things.• Saves money.• Helpful in police investigation.• Less interference.

DEMERITS

• Time consuming.• Complex. • Costly.• Boundary considerations.• Bulky.

APPLICATIONS

Recovery of cell phones

Investigation purposes

CONCLUSION“Sniffer for the detection of lost Mobile phones” paves a way by

means of which the lost mobile phones can be recovered.

Process of detection is yet to be developed through the software.

Though this method appears to be a little bit complex involving the design of the sniffer but however for large scale detection the overall effective cost of the design and the detection scales down.
