Piping special items shall comply with this specification and the requirements of the Piping Special Items
Data Sheets
Control valves and shutdown valves shall comply with this specification and the requirements of The MEP-
I-ES-009, Standard Specification for Control Valves
The P&ID's and other Company specifications indicate the required piping class and valves type for used
in detail design.
"VENDOR" ("MANUFACTURER" or "SUBCONTRACTOR") is the party, which manufactures or supplies
the equipment and services to perform the duties specified by "CONTRACTOR" / "COMPANY".

3.3 STAINLESS STEEL PIPE
a) All pipe shall be specified with the nominal size and schedule number per ASME B36.19M.

d) Austenitic SS pipe in sour service shall have a maximum hardness of 235 ( 22HRC). Super duplex SS
pipe in sour service shall have a maximum hardness in accordance with NACE MR 0175 Section 3.9.
Hardness testing shall be performed in accordance with ASTM A370.
CS pipe shall have a maximum carbon content of 0.23% by product analysis. Maximum CE shall be
0.43% by product analysis according to the formula in ASTM A106.
CS pipe in sour service shall have a maximum hardness of 237 BHN ( 22 HRC). Hardness testing shall
be conducted in accordance with ASTM A370
Pipe wall thickness values that are specified in the Piping Material Specifications (Refer Appendix A) are
adequate for the full range of pressure/temperature combinations tabulated per ASME B16.5.
All austenitic SS pipes shall be in accordance with ASTM A312 (UNS S31603) type 316L with a minimum
Molybdenum content of 2.5%.
API 5L Gr X65 can be used for piping classes where the working pressure of the piping system can not
be achieved by MAWP of A106 Gr.B
All CS pipe shall be seamless conforming to ASTM A106 Grade B, except for low temperature carbon
steel pipe which shall conform to ASTM A333 Grade 6.
All duplex SS pipes shall be in accordance with ASTM A790 (UNS S31803) with a minimum PREN of 35
according to the formula:

Piping wall thickness provided in this document do not include any additional thickness which may be
required for thermal load, live loads, hydraulic shock, or loads and forces from other causes, all of which
must be considered in the design of piping system.
Piping wall thickness shall be calculated in accordance with the relevant applicable Codes (ASME B31.3)
to the service and MEP-P-ES-002, Design Requirement for Piping System.

a) All nipples shall be manufactured from pipe in accordance with this Specification.
4 END ADAPTORS
4.1 GENERAL

Austenitic SS pipe in sour service shall have a maximum hardness of 235 ( 22HRC). Super duplex SS
pipe in sour service shall have a maximum hardness in accordance with NACE MR 0175 Section 3.9.
Hardness testing shall be performed in accordance with ASTM A370.
All SS pipe shall be supplied in the de-scaled, pickled, passivated and solution heat treated condition.
End adaptors connected to equipment shall also comply with the requirements of the relevant equipment
data sheet.
End adaptors shall be selected in accordance with the appendices to this specification and the Piping
Design Specification. Where there is conflict, Appendix C shall apply.

4.3 WELDING ENDS
a) BE shall conform to ASME B16.25/API 5L. PE shall be cut square to the pipe longitudinal axis.

5.0 VALVES
a)
Austenitic SS flanges shall conform to ASTM A182 Grade F316L and the relevant material requirements
of this Specification.
Duplex SS flanges shall conform to ASTM A182 Grade F51 and the relevant material requirements of this
Specification.
Pressure/Temperature ratings of flanges " NB through 24" NB are based on the latest version of the
ASME B16.5. Pressure/Temperature ratings of flanged components larger than 24" are based on ASME
B16.47 Series A.
All flanged ends of piping valves, fittings and special items shall comply with the requirements of this
specification.
Flange materials shall comply with the relevant carbon, CE, hardness and PREN requirements for pipe in
accordance with this Specification.
Class 600 flanges and below shall be RF, except where specified otherwise on the Piping Class Data
Sheets or P&IDs. Class 900 flanges and above shall be RTJ.
Smooth finish, roughness between Ra 3.2 and 6.3 mm for
spiral wound gasket
Serrated finish, roughness between Ra 6.3 and 12.5 mm for
flat soft gasket
Spades, spacers and blinds shall be in accordance with API Std 590 and shall have gasket contact
surface finishes as for flanges.
Piping valve, fitting and special item WE material shall comply with the relevant carbon, CE, hardness and
PREN requirements for pipe in accordance with this Specification.
Valves shall be selected according to the piping class in which they are installed as specified in Appendix
A.
Where flanges mating material is different face to face, insulation Kit shall be applied to avoid galvanic
corrosion.
All CS flange materials shall meet the requirements of ASTM A105, except for low temperature CS, which
shall conform to ASTM A350 Grade LF2.

6.0 PIPE FITTINGS
a) Fittings shall be selected in accordance with Appendices A and C.

7.0 BOLTING
Dimensions of metallic buttweld fittings shall be in accordance with ASME B16.9, with socket weld and
threaded fittings to ASME B16.11.
Where super duplex SS fittings are specified, they shall conform to ASTM A815 Grade UNS S31803 and
the material requirements specified for piping in this Specification.
CS fittings shall meet the requirements of ASTM A234 Grade WPB or WPC and ASTM A105N as
applicable, except for low temperature CS fittings, which shall conform to ASTM A420 WP L6 or ASTM
A350 Grade LF2.
Where Austenitic SS fittings are specified, they shall conform to ASTM A182 Grade F316L/ASTM A403
Grade WP 316L (UNS S31603) as applicable and the material requirements specified for piping in this
Specification.
Valve body and trim materials shall meet the requirements of Appendix B (Refer to Appendix B for the list
of available valve types and classes, and their descriptions).
Control valves and shutdown valves shall comply with the more stringent requirements of this
Specification and the General Instrument Specification.
Fittings manufactured from seamless pipe (for example lateral tees) shall be in accordance to ASME
B31.3 and requirements of this Specification and shall have computed bursting pressure at least equals to
the straight pipe from which they were manufactured.
Wrought and forged fitting materials shall comply with the relevant carbon, CE, hardness and PREN
requirements for pipe in accordance with this Specification.
All metallic valve materials exposed to process fluids in sour service shall conform to the hardness
requirements of NACE MR 0175. CS valve components shall have a maximum hardness of 22 HRC.
Hardness testing shall be performed in accordance with a COMPANY
All non-metallic valve materials exposed to process fluids shall be suitable for the relevant process
conditions.
All pipe fittings shall be supplied with wall thickness and nominal sizes that meet ASME B36.10M and
B36.19M.
Fittings larger than 1 " NB and swage nipples shall not be manufactured from bar stock. Swage nipples
shall be manufactured from pipe per the applicable material class.

8.0 GASKETS
a) Spiral wound gaskets shall be used for all flanged joints except for Ring Type Joints.
b) Spiral wound gaskets shall conform to the following:
4.4mm nominal thickness.
316 SS windings.
Graphite filler.
Inner and outer (guide) rings SS 316.
Maximum gasket hardness in sour service is 248 HV10.
Design to ASME B16.20.
All stud bolts must be long enough to ensure that there are 2 full threads visible outside the nuts after the
bolts have been fully tightened. Above-water bolt extensions beyond the nut shall be protected from
corrosion by threaded metal caps.
The diameters and lengths of stud bolts and Hex screws ("Heavy" series) shall comply with the standards
ASME B16.5 and ASME B18.2.1, except for studbolts 1" diameter and larger which shall be one diameter
longer to accommodate hydraulic bolt tensioners.
All nuts shall be of the hexagonal type ("Heavy" series) and shall be in accordance with the standard
ASME B18.2.2.
Studs of 1" diameter and smaller shall be UNC, with those 1 1/8" diameter and larger being UN8 series.
Stud bolts shall be threaded along their entire length. The machining and surface-condition tolerances
applicable to the various threadings shall conform with the following classes:
Except for stainless steel materials and subsea service, the bolting shall be hot dipped galvanized.
Subsea bolts shall be PTFE coated.
Flange bolting for LTCS lines with a minimum design temperature of (-) 50oF shall be in accordance with
ASTM A320 Grade L7 with nuts to ASTM A194 Grade 4.
Except as otherwise specified in the order, only bolting specified to standard ASTM A320 or specified for
low-temperature service shall undergo toughness tests.
All parts shall undergo thermal hardening treatment in accordance with the requirements of the applicable
codes and standards listed as reference documents.
Flange bolting for CS lines with a minimum design temperature greater than (-)20oF shall be in

10.0 MATERIAL REQUIREMENT FOR SOUR SERVICE
a) Where sour service condition apply, the material and welding requirement of NACE MR0175 are mandatory.
This include CS, LTCS, dupplex stainless steel, autenitic stainless steel and nickle alloys.

c) All items fabricated from plate shall be HIC resistant plate, and tested in accordance with NACE TM0177 and
NACE TM0284. The acceptance criterion shall be :
CLR - 10%
CTR - 3%
CSR - 1%

The maximum hardness of materials and weld zones shall comply with NACE MR0175. For CS/LTCS this is 22
HRC (= 237 BHN = 248 HV10).
Since HIC resistance of carbon steel is mainly dependant on the cleanliness of the steel, carbon steel plate used
for the fabrication of pressure vessel and pipe will be low Sulphur, Ca treated, in the quench and tempered or
normalised condition. The maximum permitted level of sulphur is 0.003%.
All piping within the main transportation system (i.e.
pipelines).
Material welded to pressure containing components shall be certified to the same degree as the
pressure containing component.
VENDOR shall ensure that appropriate certification, showing mill heat or batch markings, is received for
all furnished materials. Materials furnished without documentation are unacceptable.

11.0 MATERIAL REQUIREMENT FOR AMINE SERVICE
a) All carbon steel shall be fully killed i.e. shall contain not less than 0.10% Si.
b) Copper, copper-based alloys, aluminum and aluminum-based alloys are not permitted in rich amine service.
c) All valve trims shall have a stellite trim.
d) Gasket materials: EPDM2 (such as ALEPDM2) shall be used.
e) A corr.allow. of 1.5 mm for stainless steel shall be considered for Rich amine service where flashing occurs.
f) Screwed connections are not permitted.
g) Cold formed carbon steel items shall be thermally stress relieved.
Seamless piping/fittings will be supplied in the normalised or QT condition, with a specific restriction on sulphur
content of 0.01%. The material shall be supplied with a maximum carbon equivalent of 0.43.Specific materials
requirements will be outlined in applicable project specifications
Dissimilar welds in sour service shall be welded with a high nickel consumable (such as inconel 625), and all
efforts shall be made to ensure that dissimilar welds are minimised.
