Introduction
Introduction
• Snowy Owls are only found in the Artic and are mostly
found siting on top of the tundra . Snowy Owls can be the
size of a great horned owl . They can grow to be 27
inches. Their wingspan which thy rely on can be 4 to 5
feet long . A captive snowy owl is able to live to 28 years.
Their wingspan can reach up to 5 feet .

• In breeding season snowy owls can be found in western
Alaska to Northeastern Manitoba , northern Quebec and
Labrador in Canada. In the winter they can be found
regularly in the northern United States . They can
sometimes be found as far south in California and as well
as Texas and Florida.
Habitat
Habitat
• These Owls prefer a snowy habitat were they can disguise
themselves from prey easily. They tend to live in treetops
and tend to build their nests in high treetops in the tundra.
In the summer these diurnal animals take up open fields
, marshes and beaches.

• The Snowy Owl is a carnivorous and has extremely patient hunting techniques . They have three hunting techniques . Firstly they will pick a perch to watch their careful prey . Secondly they will find their prey deep in the artic tundra . The only thing left to do now is to swoop down at high speeds and grab the prey off the ground and into the air. The only way their hunting techniques would work is if they have good eyesight . Luckily the Snowy Owl has amazing eyesight and hearing wear they can see or hear their underneath thick snow . Snowy owls are known to eat lemming which they are able to eat in huge quantities . An adult owl is a able to eat 1,500 lemming per year along with these small rodents they also eat fish , rabbits and birds .

• Snowy Owls are known mainly to eat small mammals
such as lemmings , they are sometimes known o eat
waterfowl as well .One quality these birds are known for
is being able to catch prey in mid flight.In the winter the
diet of the birds can change quite quickly . Including
rodents , rabbits , hares , squirrels , weasels , wading
birds , seabirds , decks and geese

• Snowy owls have been represented in paintings in the caves in Europe
• The whitest snow owl (like Hedwig in Harry potter ) are always males
• Snowy Owls are known to come back to their breeding grounds years after year
• Snowy Owls are very light birds weighing 4 pounds
• This type of bird is able to catch fish using their feet
• The oldest snowy owl was found in Massachetsuss at the age of 16
• Snowy owls can swivel there head 260 degrees

• The snowy owl is mainly found in the Artic and like most
prey they camouflage themselves according to their
surroundings . Snowy Owls are a bright white flecked
with black and grey . Snowy owls are known to have
large , oval , yellow eyes . A sharp curved beak and a
large head gains them in hunting . All these attributes
serve them a purpose in the Artic .

• For a female snowy owl breeding starts between May and
September. The female will begin the process by finding
the perfect nest away from harmful predators. Depending
on the size a female will lay 3 to 11 eggs if food is
extremely abundant that year 16 eggs is also a possible
amount . It takes a month for eggs to hatch and then they
begin a new process. The parents at this stage are very
cautious against any type of harm always putting
themselves first before them. After 5 to 7 weeks the
chicks hatch and the cycle begins again
