PARTNERSHIP AMBASSADOR Sarah StoreY oBe

SARAH STOREY OBE,Partnership Ambassador

“Salford North School Sport Partnership isdoing a fantastic job in providing sportingopportunities to the young people in theirschools and I am delighted to becontinuing in my role as their ambassador.School sport is a vital part of a youngperson’s development and doing well andenjoying sport from a young age makes itmore likely for a person to continue beingactive into adulthood. The programme inSalford really is making an impact and Ihave seen for myself the difference in theway youngsters perceive themselves. Notonly are they developing team work skills, they are benefitting from greater self-confidence and the obvious effects fromincreased physical activity. I have beenparticularly impressed at the numbers ofyoung people taking responsibility to leadand organise school sport events and theenthusiasm of teachers to increase theirknowledge in PE. School sport set me upfor a life in sport and with theprogrammes available through thepartnership, today’s young people willhave the opportunity to do the same.”

PROGRESS“Schools are delighted with the progress they have made in the last five years in PE and School Sport. As I visit them, they are alwayseager to show the wide-range of physical activities now on offer for young people. The partnership should be rightly proud of itscontribution to the health and wellbeing of the children in Salford over that time, and the statistical evidence clearly shows the differencethat the SSP is making.”
