MEMORANDUM FOR Commander, HHC, 525th Military Intelligence Brigade, 4406 Reilly Road, Fort Bragg, NC 28310

SUBJECT: Heraldic Items for the 5251h Military Intelligence Brigade

1. As a result of the redesignation of the 58th Infantry Brigade Combat Team to the 58th Battlefield Surveillance Brigade, the distinctive unit insignia (DUI) and shoulder sleeve insignia (SSI) have been redesignated as outlined in enclosures 1 and 2.

2. Also enclosed are the following:

a. Manufacturing drawing, black and white line drawing, and color print for the DUI (encls 3-5).

b. SSI manufacturing drawing (A-1-698) and color print (with the subdued and line drawing) (encls 6 and 7).

c. Manufacturing drawing, black and white line drawing, color print and actual size print of the Combat Service Identification Badge (CSIB) (encls 8·11)

3. The Brigade flag will not change. It will be divided vertically oriental blue and silver gray with yellow fringe and the SSI centered.

SUBJECT: Distinctive Unit Insignia for the 525th Military Intelligence Brigade

1. The distinctive unit insignia (DUI) redesignated effective 16 October 2014, for the 525th Military Intelligence Brigade, was:

a. Originally approved for the 525th Military Intelligence Group by letter AGAH-A, The Institute of Heraldry, 26 May 1969.

b. Redesignated for the 525th Military Intelligence Brigade by letter DAAG-HDP-A, The Institute of Heraldry, 30 July 1985.

c. Redesignated effective 16 March 2008, with the description updated for the 525th Battlefield Surveillance Brigade by letter AAHS-IHS, The Institute of Heraldry, 11 April 2008.

2. The description and symbolism of the design are as follows:

DESCRIPTION

A gold color metal and enamel device 1 3/16 inches (3.02 cm) in width overall consisting of a black equilateral triangle charged with a gold lion rampant, in base two rows of alternating squares gold and blue (oriental), all above a voluted gold scroll inscribed "FAST FACTUAL FAITHFUL" in black letters.

SYMBOLISM

The gold lion rampant on a black background was taken from the coat of arms of Heidelberg, Germany, where the Group was first activated. The triangular shape alludes to the deltas in Vietnam and symbolizes the unit's service in that country. The triangle and lion with the checkered rows allude to tenacity, flexibility, and secrecy and represent the combined intelligence programs of the organization.

3. This authorization is in accordance with AR 670-1 and Headquarters United States Army Forces Command Permanent Orders 078-5, dated 19 March 2014. A copy of this letter will become part of your permanent organizational history files.

SUBJECT: Shoulder Sleeve Insignia for the 525th Military Intelligence Brigade

1. The shoulder sleeve insignia redesignated effective 16 October 2014, for the 525th Military Intelligence Brigade, was:

a. Originally authorized for the 525th Military Intelligence Brigade by letter DAAGHDP-A, The Institute of Heraldry, 30 July 1985.

b. Redesignated effective 16 March 2008, for the 525th Battlefield Surveillance Brigade and amended to delete the airborne tab and update the description by letter AAHS-IHS, The Institute of Heraldry, 11 April 2008.

2. The description and symbolism of the design are as follows:

DESCRIPTION

On a rectangular arced at the bottom with a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) yellow border, 2 1/2 inches (6.35 cm) in width and 3 inches (7.62 cm) in height overall , below a white and black checkered chief consisting of two rows of five squares each, a field divided from upper left to lower right with silver gray above oriental blue separated by a yellow lightning flash with point at lower right.

SYMBOLISM

Oriental blue and silver gray are the colors traditionally associated with Military Intelligence. The lightning flash refers to the communication and electronic warfare functions of the unit. The checkered area alludes to the overt and covert aspects of the Military Intelligence mission with the black and white colors referring to constant vigilance day and night.

3. This letter also serves to redesignate the Combat Service Identification Badge.
