FIWARE – Open Source IoT platform
A Platform which makes integrated use of social and public data possible
⚫ A vendor-neutral platform• Standard Open APIs (OMA NGSI) that enable usage of data spread across various
sectors or IoT-PF through context information management• Implemented as Open-source
⚫ It started as a public-private project from year 2011 and transitioned to a
private initiative in Year 2016

FIWARE Foundation
A private-sector driven non-profit association to promote FIWARE
◼Established in Year 2016 by Atos (France), Engineering (Italy), Orange(France), Telefonica (Spain)
◼ After module development of FIWARE, a system for quality management was setup
◼ An effort for mainly three domains, i.e., Smart City, Smart Agrifood, Smart Industry
◼ Taking various steps to promote use of FIWARE
a meeting point where innovation happens and users
can experiment with the technology
activate funds and accelerate the business of
entrepreneurs using the technology
reach a global footprint, opening to
regions that share the same vision and
ambition
support development of the community
at local level, bringing support, training,
certification

FIWARE Advantages
FIWARE advantages for Smart City, Smart Industry and Smart agri Projects
◼Easy to implement & Ensure interoperability⚫ Easy development and deployment over cloud network
⚫ Provides tools & standard data models which ease application creation
◼Easily scalable⚫ Support ecosystem for easy scaling by utilizing existing component i.e. Generic
Enablers (Ges)
◼Open APIs standards⚫ Provide cloud capability hosting with OpenStack and support extensive library of
component i.e. GEs which provide open standard (NGSI) API
◼Allows the development of powerful Apps and data fed in real-time
◼Faster and more efficient launch⚫ In FIWARE, API specifications are public and free, exempt from royalties
⚫ They are supported by an open source reference implementations i.e. GEri, so vendors can go to market faster.
◼Provides context information massively⚫ Data is compiled in context by Context broker GE which supports generate, collect,
analyze in real-time and publish information
