STEREOTYPES

My final product fits in with the stereotypical “rock” genre. My model has heavily dark make up on and a pale face which is generally what the “rock” style is nowadays, I have purposely made her look this way to fit in with the conventions of the rock/punk theme. I have used a natural girl for the front cover so it relates to a wider audience as well as the punk/rock audience. By using a natural model and editing onto her to fit the conventions of a punk shows that normal looking people can be what they want to be if they try. This could appeal to people who want to ‘break the mould’ and become who they want.

GENDER

Normally, the typical rock star is normally a male, but I have broke the conventions by using a female on the front cover. You would normally expect females to be on the front cover of glamour magazines but in this case I have made my model fit the conventions of the rock/punk magazine and portrayed her in a way that women aren’t normally shown as. I have done this by adding dark make up, pale skin and red lips onto her with different tools on Photoshop. She is still posing with a ‘chocolate box’ (pose/expression by Marjorie Ferguson) pose to captivate the audience into being drawn to the magazine, but also so they have a warm feeling towards the magazine as it makes them feel welcomed by her pose.

WOMEN

My magazine has a girl on the front cover in a very dominating pose which breaks the conventions of the role that men and women in society stereotypically have nowadays, with the male being more superior to a female, whereas in this case the front cover is all about a female, with an edgy look to her, which may attract more women to this magazine as women are not normally conveyed as being ‘edgy’, which may also attract males to the magazine as they could be intrigued by the reverse role.

SOCIAL CLASS

I have priced my magazine at £3.00 every two weeks to make it affordable for the working class so that it’s not too much for people to purchase, for example if it came out weekly, £3.00 would be seen as a bit pricey to pay whereas every two weeks it’s not as expensive. On my article I have written about how she became famous and in it I have mentioned how she was just a normal girl with dreams that she achieved, showing ordinary people if they want to achieve something, nothing is impossible.
