COMMUNITY OUTREACH

Brothers & Sisters Mentoring program Diamond McDowell, Social Media/Marketing Specialist, A/Cpl. Brown, Pfc. Tanksley, and Pfc. Hawkins of the Bladensburg Police Department, Ms. Kim Greene, Communications and Mayor Takisha James have officially relaunched the Brothers & Sisters program. This outreach initiative was formed to provide community-based mentoring to the youth of Bladensburg and to provide adult role models to help them on their journey from teenager to young adulthood. The program open house event was held on January 9, 2019 with a turn-out of approximately 10 members of our youth and their parents. The first official meeting was held on January 23, 2019 where we focused on the topic of identity. The Marketing Office created all promotional flyers, sign-up forms, sign-in sheets and the logo for this program.

Bladensburg Homework Club The Marketing Office and Pfc. Tanksley of the Bladensburg Police Department started promoting the Bladensburg Homework Club on January 11, 2019. This is a new tutoring program designed to help students who may need a little extra homework help. The program alone has generated 19 shares across the Town’s social media platforms.

Area Principals Meeting The Marketing Office and Pfc. Tanksley of the Bladensburg Police Department met to create the itinerary for the Area Principals’ Meeting that was held on January 31, 2019. The Monthly Area Principals’ Meeting was designed to help bring the Bladensburg community together through our schools with the assistance of our Town Administration and the Bladensburg Police Department.

Black History Month Movie Night Between January 1, 2019 and January 31, 2019, Marketing was responsible for creating and disseminating the event flyers and electronic RSVP document for the February 9, 2019 Black History Movie Night event. This event was also posted in our weekly E-Blast, on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Nextdoor, and sent out as a community notification.

CONSTANT CONTACT ANALYTICS

Constant Contact is a public online marketing company and e-mail service provider. The Town of Bladensburg uses this means of communication to improve the outreach and flow of important information from our Town Offices to our residents.

From January 1, 2019 through January 31, 2019 a total of 11 e-mails were sent, five weekly community updates and six community notifications. The most engaged community notification was the January 18, 2019 WSSC Customer Alert explaining that WSSC would be suspending all water service shutoffs and waive late fees for furloughed workers. Email Statistics:

• 1252 E-mails sent • 29.1% Open rate • 68% Desktop opens • 32% Mobile opens • 2.2% Click rate

The most engaged E-Blast was the January 4, 2019 weekly community update.

SOCIAL MEDIA ANALYTICS

Facebook Between January 1, 2019 and January 31, 2019, a total of 24 post were created and 15 post shared on the @BladensburgMD Facebook page. The most popular post was the January 11, 2019 announcement of the COPS office’s Homework Club program. There was a total of 565 page likes at the end of January gaining 20 new likes within the entire month.

Instagram The @BladensburgMD Instagram account acquired a total of 306 followers by January 31, 2019. The most popular post was the January 24, 2019 post of Chief Stone recognizing Pfc. Hawkins of the Bladensburg Police Department on his bravery and excellent police service protecting the residents of Bladensburg. This post accumulated a total of 27 likes and one comment.

Twitter Town of Bladensburg @BladensburgMD Twitter account ended the month of January with a total of 116-page followers. 25 tweets were created and 13 town related tweets were retweeted. The most popular tweet was a notification informing the community Town Offices would be operating on a two-hour delay. This tweet received two retweets and one like.

The town also received 7 new followers, 292-page visits

and 9,941 tweet impressions within the month of January.

UPCOMING EVENTS

Celebrating Women in Leadership Celebrating Women in Leadership is the theme for the Town of Bladensburg Annual Black History Month event. The Marketing Department has created all of the promotional flyers for this upcoming event. In the month of January, Diamond McDowell also secured two of the event panel speakers, Anna-Lysa Gayle an Emmy award-winning journalist for ABC7 news, and Angie Ange, radio personality and morning show host at 93.9 WKYS who is also an Elizabeth Seton alumnus.

Fireworks Event The 2019 fireworks committee held its first meeting on January 29, 2019. The committee is working on assigned tasks to include acquiring food trucks, kid’s activities, save the date flyers, event coverage, guest appearances and more. Our goal is to create an unforgettable experience!
