The Assessment Methods in Social Science
Method 1: Rubric Method 2: Problem-
based Method 3: Case-based
Method 2: Problem-based
• Delving into how students learn as well as what they learn extends the parameters of assessment.
• The problem used must be those that are prevalent and important.
• The students should reflect on what has been learned and determine.
• The students must become proficient in assessing their individual learning progress and that other peers.
To illustrate the problem-based assessment
• First meeting, the teacher presents a short written account of the patient with some symptoms and background.
• In the second meeting, students discuss their findings and share opinions.
• And the third meeting, students share their thoughts, data, and understanding.
Commonly cite these learning problems:
Students are unable to…
• Transfer previous learning to higher-level courses; • Advance beyond recall and recognition to higher levels
of cognition; • Synthesize, rather than just summarize; • Transfer learning from their core courses into their
major program of study.
