IntroductionRichmond Hill and Frenches are both small community. It is located in St. Vincent & the Grenadines, Kingstown and is about 4 miles away from my school. I have been a grown up resident of Richmond Hill for over the past fifteen (15) years. At this time, I have observed a number of problems lead to teenage pregnancy in the area and I have therefore decided to conduct a survey to investigate the factors that accounts to the Levels and Causes of Teenage Pregnancy.

Reason for Selecting Research Area

The researcher chose to inspect this social problem because young females of this modern time are being thrown out of their parents house and kicked out of school because of them being pregnant at a young age without their parents knowing and anyone else even notice until they start showing signs and symptoms.

Also, young females are being reckless and not taking care of themselves, so in order to give a little word of advice I choose this topic.

Page 7: Social Studies SBA New 2

Method of InvestigationIn-order for the researcher to collect the data he/she used printed questionnaires, questionnaires are more suitable for this type of research because they offer various advantages:

It takes little or no time to be completed.

its more easier for the researcher to ask questions to this type of research and receive answers to fulfill his/ her task.

Respondents are more pleased answering these questions because their personal information is not required.

Procedures used to collect Data For this School Based Assessment, It would have been difficult for me to get a response from every person, within the ages 12-20 in Kingstown where this research was done. Therefore, two specific villages within this area were being targeted. Both Richmond Hill and Frenches approximately consist of about 2000 people, which only 10 person from each was necessary in order to provide correct results. I then decided to elect people by random selecting people. The 20 selected persons were provided with 20 questionnaires on Wednesday January 15th 2014 and were recollected on Monday January 20th 2014.

Analysis and Interpretation of Data

In response to question #10 the majority of females (85%) agree that poor parenting is the main cause of teenage pregnancy while the minority (15%) of males dis-agree with the question. The responses of both males and females may be different because the females may have encountered more about pregnant teenagers.

Responding to question #10, the majority of older persons (80%) (15-18) believed that teenage pregnancy is a problem in the community, whereas a minority of younger persons (20%) (13-14) believed the statement. The difference in opinion may result because parents may have been more responsible with the lives of their young teens than the older teens.

Page 16: Social Studies SBA New 2

Statement of Findings

Three factual Statements the Researcher discovered are:

1. Most of the perpetrators of teenage pregnancy are females of the age 13-16 as indicated 90% of the respondents.

2. The majority respondents (85%) agree that poor parenting is the main cause of teenage pregnancy.

3. Majority of the respondents 85% agree that child abuse is a cause of teenage pregnancy.

Page 17: Social Studies SBA New 2

Recommendations and Implementation Strategy

Two recommendations based on the findings are:

Finding-1 The counselor should organize sessions for young females of the 13-16 on how to avoid getting pregnant at a young age.

Finding-2 The Government can open sessions/clubs for adults in every community that is based on parenting skills, having trained individuals to carry out this program. Implementations of recommendations 1 & 2: Implementation for recommendation-1

The counselor should organize sessions for young females at the ages of 13-16 to empower them on how to avoid getting pregnant at such young stage of their life. These sessions should be conducted by a professional individual, young females can meet at-least twice a week for a 30 minutes session at 12:30 am.

Implementation for recommendation-2

The governments opening sessions/clubs for adults in every community that is based on parenting skills, having a trained individual carrying out this program would be something good in the community to help reduce the rate of teenage pregnancy. This session should take place three times a week for 2hrs starting from 3:00pm to 5:00pm, all year round.
