THE SOCIETY OF SILENT UNITY

The third floor of the Unity Building is occupied by the Society of Silent Unity which is the department of Unity work devoted to absent healing. A dozen work­ers here unite in sending forth the Word of life and healing to people in a.ll parts of the world in response to the request of those who desire this help. An average of over 100 Tetters is received daily, and many of these bear testimony of healing and spiritual uplift received by those who have asked the Society’s aid in demon­strating that God is the health of his peo­ple, and their sure unfailing help in every time of need.

Every afternoon at 5 o’clock the special meeting for the realization of God’s Pres­ence and power is held, and at this time all cases presented for treatment are taken up. At the close of this meeting, extracts from the many good letters re­ceived are read.

T orreon, M exico.— I have ju s t been reading my Ja n u a ry U n it y , and, while read ing of the good others have received from the Living W ord, i t occurred to me th a t I should w rite to you also, and possibly help some hunger­ing soul in find ing ou t his tru e relationship w ith the F a th er. I t has been a little over a y ear since I f irs t heard of P ra c tica l C hristi­anity , and, oh, w hat a w orld o f good and com­fo rt I have derived from its teachings and practicing . In the D ecem ber 1908 edition of U n it y there was an acc o u n t o f my little son’s healing of scarle t fever. This was m y firs t dem onstration. S hortly a f te r th is I overcame chronic constipation in m yself and little boy. I had been a su ffe re r from th is supposed dis­

ease fo r tw enty years, ( th a t is as fa r back as I can rem em ber.) I had had operations, e lectri­cal trea tm en ts , osteopathy, and physical cul­tu re. J u s t before hearing of P ra c tica l C hristi­an ity I had s ta rte d to use ano ther rem edy. I had fa irly lived on m edicine from m y childhood up to the tim e I was m arried . I then become thoroughly sickened w ith m ate ria m edica, and resolved never to take any mored ru g s if 1 could avoid it. T hank God, I have not taken a d ro p o f m edicine, no r have m y children for a year. Theconstipation was overcome in a m onth, o r less, and I have never had, and never will have a re­tu rn o f it. My child, who su ffe red agony with ru p tu rin g , etc., does not know w hat i t means to be constipa ted now. A nd righ t here I w ant to th an k you d ear healers a t the U n ity H ead ­q u a rte rs fo r healing m y little son o f a very d isagreeable disposition. H e is en tirely healed, anil the change has been so m arked in his m an­ner and expression th a t m y friends declare his whole countenance has undergone a change. T hank you so much. I cannot b u t w onder how much m ore good I could have accom plished had I been m ore fa ith fu l in observing the Si­len t H our, and in living the T ru th s I know to be tru e . VALENTINE SOCIALThe Valentine entertainment and social,

given by the Unity Guild in Unity Audi­torium Monday evening February 14, was a success.

St Valentine was brought a prisoner to be tried before the Queen of Hearts on the charge of being a “fake.” Mother Goose characters served as the jury and witnesses. The prosecuting counsel intro­duced as evidence against the prisoner a collection of comic valentines, not at all in harmony with the Saint’s reputation as the god of Love.

After all the testimony was duly con­sidered the jury returned the verdict of “not guilty” and good Saint Valentine was set free amidst general rejoicing.

Blanche Sage Haseltine was at her best as Queen of Flearts and she is always good. Her two recitations were enthusi­astically received by the audience.

Cecil Lay, page to the Queen, sang a song so well that everybody was pleased. Cecil comes of a singing family and there­fore it is not surprising that such a big strong voice should come from such a small boy.

rather damaging testimony against the prisoner, but we are sure he forgave her when she sang “One Spring Morning” so well. Her clear strong voice carried the beautiful air very daintily, and he forgot all about her “thousand tongues” that had just borne witness against him. Della May Sanders also sang a solo acceptably.

Lowell Fillmore made the hit of the evening with Harry Lauder’s famous song “I Love a Lassie.” With a red Tam O’Shanter, and a plaid shawl and a few rolls of his trousers legs his Scotch make­up was great. When he sang the song in the free and easy style so characteristic of Harry Lauder, everybody was delight­ed and he liad to come back twice and sing parts of it over. (Lowell isn’t the editor this week. We can say what we please about him.)

Everybody deserves special mention but there isn’t room for that. They all did well, and when these good people get another entertainment ready, another lot of people will be ready to come because they know from experience what to e x ­p e c t.

The love-offerings received by the Guild upon this occasion amounted to $16.65. The receipts from the Valentine Post Office which was established in the parlor for that evening was $7-90 and $14.76 was realized from the sale of post cards, making a total of $3,9-31 which will go to help swell the Building Fund and provide suitable quarters for Unity’s in­creasing force of workers.

Last Sunday morning Mr. Fillmore talked upon the subject “The Youthful Idea and How to Maintain it” using as his central text “Who satisfieth thy mouth with good things so that thy youth is re­newed as the eagles’s.” The point of the lesson was that spiritual satisfaction re­news the youth and tends to life, while dis­satisfaction leads to wqrry and anxiety and all those adverse states of mind which break down the organism. The talk was full of. helpful practical suggestions.
