THE SOCIETY of ST. VINCENT de PAUL of SAN MATEO COUNTY

In San Mateo County, 1,100+ Vincentian volunteers are an integral part of the County’s safety net services for those individuals and families facing emergency situations. Everyday we hear heartbreaking stories of real people in our community looking

to SVdP as their last hope, and we’re doing everything we can to help them.

Help us make a difference today, please:

1. Donate by check or charge. Send a check or use your Visa, Mastercard, or Discover Card. Consider a monthly pledge, the most powerful way to help our clients with their immediate needs.

2. Donate online today at www.svdp-sanmateoco.org

3. Trade your “wheels” for meals. Donate your auto, truck, boat, or R.V. Proceeds of your gift stay in San Mateo County to help us feed the hungry and provide emergency assistance. Call 1-800-YES-SVDP (1-800-937-7837).

4. Donate goods. We welcome gently used clothing, shoes, accessories, household goods and furniture. We re-cycle computers and electronics. Call (650) 871-6844 to arrange for a convenient pick-up at your home or offi ce or drop off merchandise at any SVdP thrift store located in Daly City, South San Francisco, San Bruno, San Mateo, and Redwood City.

5. Gifts of stock can be sent to the SVdP Merrill Lynch Account #16H-61825. Please notify our Development Director at (650) 373-0622 when you transfer a gift of stock.

6. Leave a legacy. When you include the Society of St. Vincent de Paul of San Mateo County in your will or trust, you lend a helping hand to people who desperately need it.

Last year, SVdP’s Peninsula Family Resource Center helped with $707,000+ in rental assistance, made $90,000+ in utility payments, and purchased $422,500+ in supermarket food vouchers to help those who were hungry and on the verge of homelessness.

Dear Vincentians and Friends, This last year, as the economy continued to struggle, over 1,100 Vincentian volunteers, donors, and generous foundations stepped forward to meet the challenge to help support the critical necessities of some of the most needy in San Mateo County. Donors and volunteers dug deep into their resources of time and money to ensure that our SVdP services in-

creased as other organizations were forced to cut back due to lack of funding.

SVdP’s 35 Conferences, the Peninsula Family Resource Center, four Thrift Stores, and three Homeless Help Centers were always there to compassionately help those who needed a meal, a jacket or sleeping bag, or just a friendly smile and conversation. SVdP’s Restorative Justice Ministry and SVdP’s Catherine Center were there for those who were victimized and for those offenders looking for forgiveness, healing, and successful reentry into our community.

The District Council Board, feeling a fi duciary responsibility to our clients, approved using our fi nancial reserves to aid with urgent requests for rent assistance, transportation, and utility payments to help families battered by the economy. Proudly, we promoted advo-cacy for those in need through SVdP’s “Voice of the Poor” committee.

Yes - teamwork, unselfi shness, and a true love for those in need has allowed us to do so much to make life marginally better for those affl icted by the economy, addictions, mental illness, or just bad luck. All of you who have contributed made a tremendous difference. I continue to be overwhelmed by the dedication of everyone involved with our mission as I visit our Conferences and work with our dedi-cated staff. I thank you all.

Moving forward the Board is committed to maintaining services while the economy is trying to recover. This May, we opened a new thrift store in San Bruno, and our property committee is working hard to upgrade our homeless center in South San Francisco. Additionally, we are committed to upgrading two of our Conference pantries.

I hope you all take a minute to review the statistics of what we have done this past year. I thank you in advance for your continuous sup-port, for without this community team, we could not get it done.

As a non-profi t charity, the Society of St. Vincent de Paul relies almost exclusively on private individuals, foundations, and local businesses for support. Our deepest gratitude goes to all of our benefactors, both those who made gifts in 2010, as well as those who give to SVdP through their parishes.
