How did you get started in this business? When I was younger I saw how DJ’s ma-nipulated music and created an atmosphere. The magic they created is what drew me in. I wanted to become a magician on the turn-tables, create good vibes, and the same if not better atmosphere for the partier.

What’s the story behind your DJ name? When I am not behind the tables you can find me on the basketball court, so naturally I wanted to pick something that related my two favorite things. Swoosh was decided on because it defines the “Perfect” shot, and when DJing I want to put down the perfect mix, scratch or juggle. What do you like about performing in At-lantic City? That you can play to a diverse crowd, for example in the same night you could easily hear me play music from hip hop to top 40 and a throwback jam you heard growing up. You’ve worked with a lot of celebrities. Who has been your favorite to work with and why?Grand Master Melly Mel in July 2012 in Atlanta Georgia. Melly Mel is one of the originators of hip hop. He was the first rap-per to identify himself as an ‘MC’ and he has been in the game since the 70’s, so you know opening for him was a HUGE honor. Melly Mel is very down to earth and shared price-

less knowledge with me during our time in Atlanta that I apply even ‘til this day. What do you think makes you different from other DJs in Atlantic City?• Willing to build my BRAND by working harder and smarter than the rest. • I work for myself.• I have the mindset “Don’t take NO for an answer!” I know that if I don’t get that gig today, I WILL get it tomorrow or the next day.• I feel that I am willing to go above and beyond what the next DJ will do.

You spin open format music, but what would be on YOUR ideal playlist? Personally, I am a huge fan of 90’s hip hop and underground artists. Speaking of which, I presently DJ at spots in Washington D.C. where I get to showcase my own personal flavor in my song selection. I would love to give a shout out to #TEAMDC and www.Forthewinftw.com.

My playlist would include these artists: • J Dilla• Tribe Called Quest• Naughty by Nature• Common• Dilated Peoples What formats have you found are most popular in Atlantic City? Open Format – A sprinkling of everything from hip hop, top 40, dance, pop and of course throwbacks! Finish this sentence! My staple song that ALWAYS gets the crowd moving is... “Nothing” by Nore. This is one of those throwbacks that will never die. It still brings that “OH” factor that helps create that memo-rable experience. Nothing beats dropping the volume and hearing the crowd complete the chorus! What do you hope your life looks like 10 years from now? To be in a position to help up and coming DJ’s who are in need for guidance. I remember how it was coming up and I would have loved to have received coaching from a veteran DJ who has been through it all. I want to help them understand the 24/7 hustle & grind that goes into this profession. I hope that they can use my 20+ years of knowledge to reach a level even beyond my own success!

FAVORITE CHILDHOOD BOARD GAMES Let‘s journey back in time to the days when playing games with your friends was a lot less, shall we say, complicated. Back in the day, game play didn’t involve buying a $300+ gaming system, or purchasing a $50 game (instructions and cheat books not included). If you don’t remember such a time, you must be under 25 years old. Before the modern video game era, all we needed were good friends, a sturdy table, a bowl of Doritos and our favorite board game for entertainment. So what was your favorite childhood board game (TV not required) growing up? Here are our picks.

Party Nerdz,Darnell Hicks

Candy Land (3-6 years old)

One of America‘s all-time classic games. For many of us, it’s the first board game we ever played. It doesn’t require reading or counting (just like most video games today!) and the rules are easy. Just pick a card with a color, advance your piece to that color on the board, while looking at all the yummy candy in the process! Mmmmm (drool).

Back in my kindergarten days, I would always choose the green guy as my game piece. Unfortunately, my mother had to fre-quently remind me that my “Candy Apple Soldier of Justice” wasn’t edible which to this day I always seem to forget.

Hungry Hungry Hippos (3+ years old)

Who didn’t love Hungry Hungry Hippos as a child? Introduced in 1978, this game was the perfect aggression release for chil-dren suffering from a sugar high. We got to smash on a pink col-ored hippo while we frantically attempted to eat more marbles than our friends. It doesn’t get much better than that!

Players uncontrollably bang on the hippo’s protruding black spine (the lever) until all the marbles are devoured. He who hoards the most wins.

I recently played Hungry Hungry Hippo with my daughter Mikayla. Throughout the first few matches, I noticed she was lacking the animal-like aggression I possessed during the game. So I decided to light a flame and talk smack to my baby girl. Needless to say, I lost the next few games and ended up with marbles being chucked at my head.

Mouse Trap (ages 6+ years old)

Some found it entertaining, others found it frustrating. For whatever reason I was obsessed with this game as a child. If you

were like me, you probably don’t remember if you ever actually played the game. Building the contraption and tearing it down after a few test runs was the biggest attraction. Watching that poor plastic guy back flip into the bathtub was always a joy for me. I mean “c’mon fella, don’t you have anything better to do?”

Connect Four (ages 7 and up)

Created in 1974, Connect Four took the gaming world by storm and was the ultimate test of skill for kids fighting over who is smarter. Unfortunately, popularity of this game fell in the late 80’s after James D. Allen cracked the game’s code by revealing the formula to “the perfect game” - What a party pooper!

My cousin and I lived by this game. I remember years back we had a best out of five tournament. We were at the final game and right before he was about to drop his winning checker, SOME-HOW all the pieces were released! Earthquakes were always so inconvenient back in those days, cough! Next Week the Final Four Board Games!

Atlantic City, get ready!

The concern about online gaming in Atlantic City has been controversial. The biggest concern, will online gaming cannibalize gamblers coming toAtlantic City? Answer No!

Here is why. Let’s think this through. Has Wall Mart stopped expanding be-cause of online shopping? No. Is Ama-zon the online shopping powerhouse building new warehouses? Yes! Has CVS or Rite Aid Drug Stores closed because you can by prescriptions online? No! It has actually expanded their customer base and physical reach. Every store in the Tanger Outlets, The

Walk, has its own shopping website and yet people come to Atlantic City to shop anyway. Brick and mortar businesses are here to stay. Human interaction can’t be replaced.

PLEASE TAKE THE QUESTION OUT OF THE EQUATION.

As we learn about poker stars buying the Atlantic Club Hotel and Casino inAtlantic City. A further study finds. They are not the only online gambling players in the business. The Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa has a limited partnership with the European online gambling gi-ant Bwin.party. Caesars Entertainment Corporation operates British-based 888-holdings Inc., the online gambling website. This puts both company’s front

and center for being ready for the sign-ing of the online gambling bill byGovernor Chris Christy. This provides offering an already in use onlinegaming quality product immediately.

The bill has been conditionally vetoed and can quickly and easily be amended and signed into law. Estimates for online gambling are in the billions of dollars annually. Rational Group better known as Poker Stars is in the process of buying the Atlantic Club and will actually be the third Atlantic city online poker company. Resorts Casino and the Mohegan Sun are also consider-ing online gambling. I am sure it will behoove every Atlantic City Casino to have its own Gaming website.

Concierges’ CornerBy: James Hawkes - VP of GACCA, 609-449-4218

Did you know Atlantic City is the only place in the world you can day trip to five other major city’s? Yes, a day trip!

New York City (The Big Apple) is the most frequented day trip for travelers. The recommended mode of transportation is Greyhound bus. It has the most comprehensive schedule almost hourly, and daily. You can find their schedules at www.luckysteakbus.com. Tickets are $37 roundtrip and are generic for up to 72 hours from time of purchase. Our concierge‘s suggestion is to buy your roundtrip bus tickets the day before your trip and book your tour when you arrive in NYC. Be flexible, and have more than one plan. The most popular tour is the Hop on Hop off double Decker bus tour.

Our next suggestion is The City of Brotherly Love, Philadelphia, the second must see destination. Only an hour and twenty minutes away this historical city has direct train service connecting Center City Philadelphia with Atlantic City, just blocks from the Liberty Bell. One way tickets are just $10 and the train drops you off right at 8th and Market St. The constitutional walking tour can be found at www.theconstitutional.com

Washington DC and Baltimore are less frequented cities but still doable for day trippers. Buses run a regular schedule to DC and Baltimore. So does Amtrak from 30th Street Station in Philadelphia. There is a high speed option Acela but check for pricing, because and distance the concierge recommends traveling by car for its accessibility and flexibility.

Finally, Lewes, Delaware is actually the second closest city by Ferry Boat across the Delaware Bay. The Cape May / Lewes Ferry runs regularly. Schedules are available at www.CMLF.com. Dolphins are spotted regularly on the trip during the summer months; you can take your own car on the Ferry so transportation is easily accessible. Once in Delaware, you will experience some of the best “Outlet” shopping in the region with no sales tax.

Moviemaker Rob Zombie Set To Illustrate Philadelphia Flyers’ Broad Street Bullies DaysAssociated Press, PHILADELPHIA – Rob Zombie has gone from horror to hockey.Zombie has ditched the slasher flicks with his latest project, a movie adaptation of the Philadelphia Flyers’ famed Broad Street Bullies teams of the 1970s. The Bullies pounded their way into the hearts of Flyers fans — and became the most despised team in the NHL — while winning the franchise’s only two Stanley Cup championships in 1974 and 1975.

Raised a hockey fan outside Boston, the Bullies caught Zombie’s attention. Now, he has theirs. Zombie visited former Bullies like Bob Kelly and Bernie Parent before a Flyers game this month and toured the team’s archives. He’s putting the finishing touches on the script and hopes to being filming in the fall. He posed for pictures with current Flyers and met with team brass to get a

better sense of how it is the orange and black have stirred Flyers fans for decades. Zombie enjoyed meeting with the Flyers as he tried to get them to spill dirt, more than blood. “This is the one where I try to get everyone to tell me stories they don’t want to tell,” he said.

Zombie wants to film most of the movie in Philadelphia and will try and find a suitable rink to recreate the old Spectrum, site of their biggest wins, but since razed to make room for an entertainment complex.

“It’s the greatest sports story ever not told, I guess,” Zombie said. “It’s been told other ways but not in film. Had to do it. It reads like fiction, it’s so incredible.”

The Bullies were celebrated in the documentary “Broad Street Bullies” which premiered on HBO in 2010. It was the first NHL documentary ever aired by the premium cable network. “I thought the HBO special was really good,” Kelly said. “If anything, they could do a sequel. I thought it really depicted what we were all about. I thought it depicted the city well.”

Parent, Bobby Clarke, Dave “The Hammer” Schultz, Bill Clement, and owner Ed Snider were among the former Flyers interviewed who shared their favorite stories for HBO — from tales about their rugged style of play to the black armbands they wore when their favorite bar burned down.

So many stories have been told and numerous books written over the last three decades that it’s hard to figure out what’s left. “We’re certainly not going to give away any team secrets,” Kelly said. “There’s been a lot of books written about the Flyers and not all of it is 100 percent accurate.”

Zombie insisted there’s more tell — and maybe some twisted ways to tell them. He called the movie a mash of “Boogie Nights” and “Rocky.”

“What I love about it is it’s almost like ‘Rocky,’ but it’s real,” Zombie said. “You watch ‘Rocky,’ you go, ‘I wish that were real.’ But it’s sort of like ‘Boogie Nights’ meets ‘Rocky.’ Because I know from the 5-minute conversations I’ve had, that there’s a lot of good stuff beside hockey going on. It’s the characters.”

The heavy-metal shock rocker and founder of White Zombie found new fame as the writer-director of slasher films. Zombie previously directed the horror films “Halloween,” ‘’Hallow-een II,” ‘’The Devil’s Rejects” and “House of 1000 Corpses.” His albums include “Hellbilly Deluxe” and “The Sinister Urge.”

“I can’t really say I listen to his music,” the 62-year-old Kelly said, laughing. “It’s a bit out of my league.”

Parent had one small question for Zombie about those ol’ Bullies. “By the way, who won?” he said.

“Go see the movie,” Zombie said, laughing. “Spoiler ending.”
