Dining Out In CharlestonWe hope you consider joining us for the Plantation Night at Middleton Plantation, with tour, exhibits, anddinner, and at the annual SOAP Banquet. But if not, and after the reception cocktail hour, there are manyexcellent restaurants in Charleston, and severalwithin walking distance of the hotel. MEMBERSHIP

Active members:Any physician or scientist particularly interestedin the problems and the practice of the perinatalperiod may be enrolled as an active member ofThe Society for Obstetric Anesthesia and Penna-tology (SOAP). Application is made to the secre-tary, and on acceptance by the secretary of theapplication and the receipt of the annual member-ship fee (dues), membership is commenced. Ac-five membership will be maintained as long asannual membership fees are paid. Membershipwill be terminated on request of the member or ifdues become more than 11 months in arrears, andmay be reinstated on receipt of dues.

Only active members may vote and hold officeand are entitled to benefits of membership inSOAP as determined by the Board of Directorsand the membership.

Associate members:A scientist with interest and/or expertise in prob-lems of the perinatal period may apply to or beinvited by the Board of Directors to be an Associ-ate member. Associate members may not vote orhold office in the society, but may actively partici-pate in other aspects of the society. Benefits anddues will be equivalent to active membership.

Retired members:A physician who has been an active member forat least 1 year may be granted retired membershipstatus if they have retired from active practice.Dues and benefits shall be equivalent to activemembership.

Honorary members:Honorary membership may be bestowed on anindividual by action of the Board of Directors and

approval by the membership at an annual meet-ing. Dues may be waived for these members, andactive membership benefits provided as deter-mined by the Board of Directors.

Voting Members:Voting membership is restricted to active mem-bers who have been previously accepted and havepaid the annual membership fees, and who are inattendance at a business meeting of the society.

MEMBERSHIP FEES:Membership fees or dues shall be recommendedby the Board of Directors for the succeeding cal-endar year and must be approved by majorityvote of the membership at the annual meeting.Such fees should cover the costs of maintainingmembership applications and files, correspon-dence, the SOAP NEWSLETTER, Directory, othercosts of administration, and member benefits ofthe Society as determined by the Board of Direc-tors or voting membership. Dues in arrears formore than 11 months shall result in removal frommembership and loss of benefits. Reinstatementmay be achieved on receipt of current member-ship fees.

EFFECTIVE DATE:These changes in the Bylaws of The Society forObstetric Anesthesia and Perinatology shall takeeffect on January 1 of the calendar year followingacceptance by the voting membership at an an-nual meeting.
