Phil Zuckerman

Wednesday, April 2, 5-6 pm Alice Peters Auditorium (UBC)

Is religion a necessary foundation for a successful society? Successful societies often tend to be less religious. By comparing foreign countries as well as states, and counties within the United States, the relationship between religion, secularism, and societal success will be explored and widely held assumptions will be challenged. Dr. Phil Zuckerman is professor of Sociology at Pitzer College and author of Faith No More (Oxford, 2011), Society without God (NYU, 2008), and Living the Secular Life (Penguin).
