“Andres Bonifacio is my hero because…”

Andres Bonifacio is my hero because I think he truly represents and embodies

the Filipino. He did not receive a formal education or have much means, yet he was

able to lead the Katipunan, He was self-taught, and was essential to the formation of the

Katipunan and is also considered the “Father of the Philippine Revolution”.. Being

raised in Tondo, he had come from almost nothing. He overcame his predicament, and

became one of the most influential persons in Philippine history. His goal in forming the

revolution was not only to rid the Philippines of colonial rule after three centuries of

oppression, but to also empower and unite the underprivileged Filipinos like himself to

rise against the injustice of the Spaniards. I think that Andres Bonifacio is one of the

underappreciated Filipino heroes. Though people know who he is, they don’t

necessarily know what he really did for our country. He is one of the driving forces of the

revolution, and is also one of the most crucial figures in our country’s history. He

advocated for the complete independence of our nation. Despite all the obstacles,

hindrances, and difficulties, he never gave up and continued to fight for the freedom

long overdue. His love, passion, service and sacrifice for this country and its people is

the spirit of nationalism, that one should posses and try to emulate.
