Machining Condition Assist function - "LN Pro ADV"

Based on the Sodick's 40 years experience in EDMing, the "LN Pro ADV" pro-vides the ideal machining condition depending on the machining shape and plan.

Thermal Displacement Compensation System - "TH COM"

Temperature sensing of each part allows AP30L to adjust the machine to each season and user environment. The precision displacement compensation and various diagnostic functions realize high precision machining.

Artificial Intelligence Maintenance Function - "AIM"

The machine diagnose the influence of machining real-time by recording the machine temperature change. This maintenance function leads to the reduc-tion of defective rate and improvement of traceability.

Developed to allow circulation of machining fluid and cooling liquid, and overall temperature control.AP30L collectively manages all the ambient temperature changes and internal heat generation through the overall temperature control.

TPC control which supports significantly higher machining speed results in increased speed. A 30% reduction (compared to the conventional model) of machining time was realized.

Evolved fine pulse control realizes faster finish machining and greater uniformity of the finished surface, while maintaining surface roughness.

The synergistic effect of the latest technology simultaneously realizes precision machining and high-speed machining. The machining time was reduced by 32% compared to the conventional model, even for fine and precision shapes that have a corner radius of 3 µm or less.

The use of a newly developed CFRP main spindle results in uniform machining at full stroke. The reproducibility of ultra-fine machining that is re-quired by the core pin of the narrow pitch connec-tor has been greatly improved.

The posture stability during machining is im-proved, realizing precision pitch machining. (−1.1 µm to −0.5 µm, Range: Within 1.0 µm)

Molding of automobile parts – From light, thin, short and small, to precision,

composite, accuracy, and high reliabilityThe main applications of plastic parts for cars range from the conventional exterior parts to parts for mechanisms and function parts. The needs imposed by injection molding have changed from “light, thin, short and small” to “precision, composite, accuracy, and high reliability.” Sodick’s V-LINE® injection molding machine is contributing to the creation of automobiles that necessitate safety and comfort in addition to these 4 key words.

  • “We will invest management resources in ar-

eas that remain in Japan.” This statement was

made by Shinya Ikeda, manager of the Ce-

mented Carbide Division of Kyoritsu Gokin

Co., Ltd., a manufacturer of ultrahard materi-

als known under the “Everloy” brand. It is

judged that this company will grow in the ar-

eas of [1] large ultrahard materials, [2] tech-

nology for machining large materials atten-

dant to this growth, and [3] fine and precision

areas. Ultrahard material is used because

parts that are increasingly used in next-gen-

eration automobiles are being upsized, and it

is considered that “fine and precision areas

which are troublesome and require time and

effort” (Division Manager Ikeda) will also re-

main in Japan. Development and investment

were concentrated in these areas, and in au-

tumn of last year we announced a material

    that simultaneously realized hardness and

toughness. At the end of the year, we intro-

duced large wire-cut EDM and also fine EDM

one after the other. We are also planning to

increase our supply capacity with the com-

pletion of the 4th period work on the Kashi-

wabara Plant in Tamba City in Hyogo Prefec-

    ture in April.

Kyoritsu Gokin Co., Ltd. was established by

Kakuzo Matsumoto in 1938 as an alloy manu-

facturer. During the war, the company steadi-

ly expanded its business, aided by its desig-

nation as a navy-supervised factory. An

epoch-making event in the company’s history

was the development of the spray nozzle in

1957. In particular, their descaling nozzle

which was used in steelworks, enabled them

to increase their market share. Because ce-

mented carbide was used at the front end of

the nozzle to enable it to withstand high

pressure injection, the division of their busi-

ness into cemented carbide and nozzle de-

velopment resulted in the headwater of their

current business. Presently The three main

pillars of their business consist of the above

two business items to which their machining

    business has been added.

KD20 material which came into wide use in

the latter half of the 1990s for fabricating dies

for the semiconductor industry provided an

opportunity to making a great leap forward in

the area of ultrahard material. Division man-

ager Ikeda says the following concerning this

long-selling material: “It is highly versatile,

and even now accounts for a large part of the

sales turnover in the material business.”

They are currently making all-out efforts con-

cerning the areas remaining in Japan which

are indicated the beginning of this report.

One of these is the development of large

ultrahard materials used for parts which are

expected to increase in quantity along with

the electrification of automobiles. The EW se-

ries, which has excellent corrosion resistance,

was announced as a symbolic product in last

year’s JIMTOF2018. In addition to possessing

    high corrosion resistance, it simultaneously

realizes the conflicting characteristics of hard-

    ness and toughness.

Regarding upsizing, in 2012 they carried out

    equipment investments at the Kumamoto

Plant, and as a result they can also supply ma-

terials of φ400 mm which is twice the size of

    the previous φ200 mm material.

Strengthening the development of large ultrahard materials

Upsizing of rod material as well is progressing.

Last year they acquired a “craftmanship grant,”

and can now supply ultrahard material of 3 m

lengths in addition to the previous 1 m lengths.

Division manager Ikeda says, “We will reinforce

our ability to supply large materials. Our strength

lies in our ability to offer materials of the optimum

composition, according to the material to be ma-

chined, regardless of whether it is steel or stainless

steel.” He also stated that the policy of the compa-

ny will be “to continue to offer materials that

match the customer’s materials to be machined.”

egarding their machining business as well, they

will change over to upsizing, as in the case of ma-

terials. This is because of requests to deliver prod-

ucts as half-finished products is on the increase.

To this end, "Wire is indispensable," stated Divi-

sion manager Ikeda. At the end of last year, they

adopted the Sodick AL600P wire-cut EDM, which

can machine workpieces of up to φ400 mm in a

pitch accuracy class of 1 m.

One other area in which they are making efforts for

machining is the fine and precision area. Division

manager Ikeda says, “There is no need to be con-

cerned about cemented carbide when carrying out

a machining business. At any rate, we will continue

to accept orders that are difficult and troublesome.”

They also accept orders for parts related to small

automobiles such as those whose parallelism is 1

µm, and which have a surface roughness of

about Ra 0.1 µm. "10 years ago, our company re-

fused to accept orders for parts that were trou-

blesome to make." However, in order to increase

the added value per hour and stabilize our earn-

ings, they changed over to a policy of actively ac-

cepting difficult orders. The business structure of

Kyoritsu Gokin is closely related to this.

The market situation for tungsten ad cobalt

which are the main materials of cemented car-

bide fluctuates greatly, and earnings do not

readily stabilize. For example, over the past 3

years, the price of tungsten which is the main

raw material of cemented carbide has increased

2-fold, and the price of cobalt which is used as a

binder has increased by a factor of about 2.5. “In

the ultrahard material business, it is impossible

to avoid such wild fluctuations on the market sit-

uation. For this reason, in the case of nozzles oth-

er than the above and also the machining busi-

ness, it is necessary to secure stable profit.”

Regarding the future, Division manager Ikeda

says, “The market for large parts related to the

electrification of automobiles is expected to

grow. In addition, regardless of whether upsizing

is performed or fine and precision machining is

carried out, the parts that remain in Japan will

have high added value. We intend to invest

    management resources in these parts.”
