The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) developed a Student-Athlete Oath for the 2009-2010 academic and athletic year. The oath outlines the expectations accepted by all UMHB Student-Athletes and also details the pride those student-athletes feel to be a part of Cru Athletics. Student-athletes began using the oath for the first time in the fall of 2009 and it became a prominent and permanent part of the UMHB Student-Athlete experience. The Cru Student-Athlete Oath is listed below:

The Crusader Oath

As Crusader Student-Athletes we pledge to:

Pursue excellence in the classroom and in competition;

Support our fellow student-athletes and other members of the Crusader student body;

Be fair, open, and honest; holding ourselves to highest standards of sportsmanship and integrity;

Be positive role models within our community;

Glorify Christ through our actions and abilities;

Honor and embrace the privilege of wearing Purple, White, and Gold.

Wherever we go and forever, we represent the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor.

Melissa Mojica was named the Assistant Coach for the Uni-versity of Mary Hardin-Baylor softball team in July 2015. Mojica joined the Cru after spending the previous nine seasons as an assistant softball coach at West High School. The Lady Trojans won six district championships and appeared in four state tournaments during her tenure. Mojica also coached volleyball and basketball during her time at West.

Mojica is a 2005 graduate of Baylor University and she was a two-year letter winner and starter for the Baylor softball team. She played for two NCAA Tournament qualifiers with the Bears and her game-winning double against North Carolina as a junior gave Baylor the first NCAA postseason victory in the

history of the Bears softball program. Mojica was also an All-American softball player at Tem-ple College. She played for two Texas Junior College Northern Conference Champions under current UMHB Head Coach Larry Hennig with the Leopards.

Mojica and her husband, David, were married in 2019. She is a native of West and has three daughters, Avery, Tagen and Mack.

Larry Hennig has guided the Cru to a 237-146 overall record and a 156-66 mark in conference and divisional play in nine seasons as UMHB’s head coach. Hennig led the Cru to back-to-back ASC West Division titles and also shared ASC West Division Coaching Staff of the Year honors in each of his first two seasons at the helm.

Hennig became the head softball coach at UMHB in August of 2010. Hennig came to UMHB from Temple College, where he started the Leopard softball program and spent 12 years. Hennig guided TC to a 519-203 record in those 12 seasons and he coached the Leopards to eight conference championships and three NJCAA National Tournament appearances. He coached 17 All-Americans during his tenure at TC and ranks among the top 25 active softball coaches in the NJCAA in career coaching victories. Hennig was named NFCA Midwest Region Coach of the Year in 2006 after the Leopards were ranked #1 in the nation for four weeks.

Hennig graduated from Sam Houston State University in 1973 with a degree in education. He earned his Master’s of Education from Tarleton State University in 1988 and also completed his Mid-Management Certification and Superintendent Certification at Tarleton State. Hennig also earned an Associate’s Degree from McLennan Community College in 1971 and he was a baseball letterman for the Highlanders.

Hennig also spent eight years as the principal of Troy Middle School prior to joining Temple College. He coached football and taught world history at Temple High School from 1980-1988 and was the head baseball coach at Temple High for five years.
