Known Limitations

SA100/400

Call Me feature not working over SIP Tie Trunk

By default, the SA100/400 belongs to a User Group called Audio Conference. Any restrictions on calling need to be configured in this User Group or the SA100/400 needs to be assigned to a different User Group.

DMZ considerations o SA100/400’s are NOT supported in a mixed deployment where some SA100/400’s are

deployed in the DMZ and some are deployed in the trusted zone. In other words, either all SA100/400s’s are deployed in the DMZ or all SA100/400’s are deployed in the trusted zone.

o The DMZ router MUST support appropriate FTP ALG (i.e. PASV and EPSV) in order for backup/restore to work against a FTP server outside of the DMZ.

o Ports that must be opened are specified in Installation and Administration Guide for SA100/400 under the DMZ deployment section. In addition to all the ports listed in the document, TCP port 4309 must also be opened.

o When configuring a SA100/400 in a DMZ, a valid FQDN MUST be supplied in order for both users inside and outside of ShoreTel to access a web conference.

o SA100/400 requires an email server from the DMZ in order to send an email invite successfully.

Federation: Federation of instant conferences between systems is not a supported feature in the ST14 release; we support the federation only of MeetMe conferences.

Outlook Calendar Integration: Outlook Calendar Integration for SA100/400 is not supported in a configuration in which one user is a delegate for another user and the user tries to create a SA100/400 conference on behalf of another user. The same is true of calendar sharing.

For a recurring Outlook appointment containing a SA100/400 conference, it is not possible to modify the properties of a single occurrence of the conference and have the modification apply to just that one occurrence; the modification ends up applying to all occurrences of the conference.

SA100/400 – Disaster Recovery not yet supported

SA100/400 – Partitioning not yet supported

SA100/400 – Linux Security Patch utility not yet supported

Distributed Database

Distributed Workgroups are not available with the Distributed Database feature enabled. Distributed Database and Distributed Workgroup cannot both co-exist in this release.

VMware

ShoreTel Application Note AN10259 and AN10391 must be read. The VMware deployment requires careful planning using those references. One important consideration is a dedicated NIC especially for sites with voice quality issues.

ENG-072000 – If the ShoreTel server virtual machine (VM) is executed in VMware High Availability (HA) mode, we recommend that VM Monitoring be disabled. There is a known

8 800-2342-01

VMware defect in which VMs that have high CPU or memory utilization sometimes delay sending heartbeats to the VMware vCenter server, which causes vCenter to restart the VMs. The problem can be eliminated by disabling VM Monitoring for the ShoreTel VM, or by reducing the monitoring sensitivity to “Low”. The VM Monitoring properties are set using the “Edit Settings…” menu item for the cluster.

Disaster Recovery is not supported on servers running on VMware. We will leverage VMware failover options such as HA.

HA failover option only supported for HQ server. Not for DVS. In addition, no failback is needed since the VM gets moved to a new host in case of HA failover for HQ.

Fault Tolerance feature is not supported.

Anti-Virus Software On the ST Servers, please make sure to exclude the below files on the Virus Checker Exclusion page.

c:\Shoreline Data\temp;

c:\Shoreline Data\Database\ShoreTelCDR;

c:\Shoreline Data\Database\ShoreTelConfig;

c:\Shoreline Data\Call Records 2\Data;

(NOTE: C:\ path depends on folder where ShoreTel is installed.)

ST Switches

Serial login: Difference from Legacy Switches the Baud rate has increased from 19200 to 115200.

SSH Login: Difference from Legacy Switches Mt. Baker is only accessible with the HQ_RSA key (Use Puttygen to create *.ppk key) Difference from Legacy Switches Mt. Baker does not allow telnet access

ENG-326859 –Switch may lose connectivity after upgrade if you are upgrading from version below 21.73.9902.0 and issue Identifies itself with these symptoms: 1. LDVS does not show up as "firmware mismatch" it will show up as "Unknown" or "lost communication. 2. If logged onto the LDVS and attempt to run "svccli" it will be terminated with a "STException" and create a core dump "core_<IP Address of LDVS>.RM-LDVS.svccli.6733.1437416266.gz admin@RM-LDVS:~$ svccli terminate called after throwing an instance of 'STException' Aborted (core dumped) The issue is with the ShoreTel (DB/Registry) in "/shoretel/etc/Shoretel.cfg", there is an extra blank line added to this file after ""PassphraseBackup"" and before "[ShoreTel/STMEDIA]". [ShoreTel/ShoreWare Server] "Passphrase"=string:41625dd63b6b6d6256a72a32b6e4af10 "PassphraseBackup"=string:41625dd63b6b6d6256a72a32b6e4af10 [ShoreTel/STMEDIA] Workaround (Options): 1. Delete the ShoreTel.cfg file in "/shoretel/etc" and reboot the LDVS. This will create new ShoreTel.cfg without the extra line. LDVS should come up with Firmware mis-match ready to be upgraded OR 2. Logged into LDVS as root from console use Option 7 from "stcli" ((7) -- Restore factory default). You will be asked to do a "full or Partial" you can select partial and then select "yes" the LDVS will reboot and should come up with Firmware mis-match ready to be upgraded OR

9 800-2342-01

3. Open the ShoreTel.cfg in "vi" and remove the extra blank line after ""PassphraseBackup"" and before "[ShoreTel/STMEDIA]". Save the file and restart the LDVS . LDVS will reboot and should come up with Firmware mis-match ready to be upgraded

Important Links The ShoreTel Connect Build Notes provide essential, current information to ensure a successful migration and

installation. This includes supplemental information to the current ShoreTel documentation suite available on the

ShoreTel support web site (http://support.shoretel.com).

ShoreTel product enhancements will be tracked at: [email protected] while the Suggestion Portal

webpage undergoes improvements. ShoreTel uses your feedback to establish content for future releases.

Known Issues (Tips & Tricks)

Certificates Certificates are a key part of the improvements to the security architecture for Connect. If the certificates

are not installed properly it may adversely impact your ShoreTel System. Depending on your customer’s needs, Certificates may need to be ordered in advance of the migration. Review the Certificate procedures in ShoreTel’s Technical documentation and listen to Webinars (found by searching on Certificates and Tech Talks): http://support.shoretel.com/.

Database - SQL Injection Security Vulnerability ShoreTel advises customers who have deployed Connect ONSITE build 21.79.4313.0 or earlier with a

deployment of ShoreTel Conferencing, to upgrade their system to build 21.79.4315.0 at their earliest convenience. The new 21.79.4315.0 build addresses a SQL injection security vulnerability recently identified which, if

exploited can leave the Connect systems at risk of having its configuration database exposed and subject

to malicious changes.

This issue affects all Connect builds from 21.70.2173.0 to 21.79.4313.0 but does not affect any ShoreTel

14.2 or earlier builds. Note: More detailed information can be found at:

http://support.shoretel.com/kb/view.php?t=SQL-injection-security-vulnerability-for-Connect-ONSITE

ShoreTel ST Switches Dual stage upgrade is not an option on the first migration to ShoreTel Connect

ShoreTel IP Phones Automatic phone firmware upgrades is on by default. System administrators will need to disable this

feature from Director if manual upgrade of IP Phones is desired.

10 800-2342-01

ShoreTel Connect Client • The Connect client will ignore certificate error received from the Exchange server via Outlook AddIns.

Connect Client will alert the user but will still connect in the absence of a valid certificate. ShoreTel will enforce valid certificates and/or perform HTTP fallback in a future release. Exchange administrators are encouraged to source and install the proper certificates to ensure proper security and a smooth user experience.

• When switching networks, must exit the client and re-launch the client to connect to new network. • When hosting or participating in a web conference use either the ShoreTel Connect Client Application

or the SA100/400 application. Performance will be impacted if you mix and match client types. • Communicator must be uninstalled on all client machines prior to installing the Connect client • Client installations available from the client setup file or via the ShoreTel HQ Server (see instructions

below) • When using a Global URL and self-signed certificates on the Service Appliance, the admin will need to

re-generate the self certs on Service Appliance after upgrading the PBX build to 21.74.5023.0 and higher. Creating the conference events will fail otherwise and users on different Service Appliances cannot join.

o Steps to resolve Via the Admin UI, disable https for the Service Appliances on your PBX Putty to each Service Appliance and go to the directory: /cf/certs Delete the following files: ucb_server.key, ucb_ca_cert.crt, ucb_ssl_cert.crt Via the Admin UI, enable https for each Service Appliance Ensure that the above 3 files which were deleted have now been re-created.

• IM server will go down when the user was previously configured with OCS/Lync in earlier ShoreTel PBX releases prior to migrating to the Connect platform. Workaround: Prior to migrating to the Connect Platform, users configured for OCS/Lync as the IM server should be changed to the Service Appliance as the IM server

• Favorite appears twice if users have created a contact group named “Favorites” on Communicator for Windows. If users have created a contact group named “Favorites” on Communicator, they should rename it. Workaround: If this is not done, then the user will have two Favorites groups on the Connect Client. They can always, however, rename the one created on Communicator to something else

• Softphone – Before upgrading to Connect platform, the admin should change all users’ and remove the “allow use of softphone” enablement under each user’s settings

• AD pictures are not seen in Client. Workaround: Sign in to Linkedin and update your pic • Client: AD logon fails if the server is set to the IP of the Linux DVS (ENG-324577)

o If the user is homed on LDVS, for AD authentication, client must be pointed to the HQ server. This is as designed for Connect 1.0 platform.

o If the user is on WDVS, the client can continue to point to WDVS server for AD authentication

• Outlook plug-ins: There are a couple of known issues around Outlook AddIns and we recommend the following mitigation steps for Customers running on Windows machines.

o After installing Connect Client on the Windows machine, please go to Outlook, navigate to Options/AddIns and disable all ShoreTel Connect AddIns

o Go to Director and “Disable Outlook automated Call Handling” • When using SSO login for VPN less client via Edge GW deployed in DMZ, the client will still ask the

user to enter their username and password. Workaround: Enter username and password for login to be successful

• There is no SSO AD logon on Mac. Workaround: Enter username and password for login to be successful

• Users on different Service Appliances cannot join the conference when the Service Appliance has a self-signed certificate. Workaround: Regenerate the self-signed certificates as described above.

• Cannot create conferences (events) when https is disabled • Not able to edit or cancel the meeting with Office 365 and Outlook 2010 when you have multiple

profiles in Outlook 2010. This works with only a single profile.

11 800-2342-01

• Office 365 with Outlook 2010 will keep rejecting authentication credentials upon client login. Instructions to setup Office 2010 desktop programs to work with Office 365 for Business, refer to Microsoft’s Knowledge base article: https://support.office.com/en-us/article/Set-up-Office-2010-desktop-programs-to-work-with-Office-365-for-business-3324b8b8-dceb-45e2-ac24-c642720108f7

• Remote video between two parties will stay active when a third party is added to the call, however, if a fourth party is added, the video will disconnect.

• Find me screen will not be seen in the client for the following scenarios o when the user’s calls are not forwarded to voicemail o when the user’s mobility is enabled o when the user is an extension only user

• When logging into a conference with the web conferencing client – softphone with Internet Explorer, the user will not get a conference prompt and will be directly placed into the conference.

• Softphone with web conferencing client is not supported on Edge browser • Unable to playback conference recordings with Internet Explorer. Workaround: Use Chrome, Firefox,

Safari or play within Connect Client. • Video might not work consistently. If a HQ softphone user registers to a remote site, Intersite video

class of service must be enabled for video to work as expected. • Group chat within a scheduled conference on a service appliance, the firs user in the group chat will

not see the previous history. Subsequent users joining the conference will see the entire history. ShoreTel will resolve this in a future release.

• Softphone with web conferencing client does not work consistently on Mac OS X (10.9). Workaround upgrade to either Mac v10.10 or 10.11.

ShoreTel Connect Deployment overview:

• Installation: Client install files will be provided. Install ShoreTel Connect client by running installer from a network location or through ShoreTel Connect client upgrade URL.

• • Uninstall: To uninstall or revert back to old version, repeat the deployment of ST Connect installer but

of the desired earlier version of the client, then uninstall the higher client version from each client machine and install the earlier version.

• • ShoreTel Connect client upgrade URL: • <HQ URL root>/ShorewareResources/ClientInstall • • File set for this patch (on target machine) • ============================================= • • <HQ Installation Directory>\ShoreWare Server\ShoreWare

Resources\ClientInstall\ShoreTelConnect.exe • <HQ Installation Directory>\ShoreWare Server\ShoreWare

Resources\ClientInstall\ShoreTelConnect.dmg • • Very Important (Please read carefully): • ======================================= • • 1. Installation of this patch does not require stopping any services on the HQ. • 2. Installation of this patch does not require a restart of the server. • • Deployment steps: • ================= • • IMPORTANT: Do not rename or remove the installer files in the target •

12 800-2342-01

• 1. Backup: copy the files FROM the location below • <HQ Installation Directory>\ShoreWare Server\ShoreWare Resources\ClientInstall • • TO a backup directory, e.g. • C:\ShoreTelInstallerBackup\X.Y.Z.0\ • (where X.Y.Z.0 is the version being backed up) • • 2. Deploy: Copy files below • ShoreTelConnect.exe • ShoreTelConnect.dmg • • FROM the hotfix fileset directory, TO the following location • <HQ Installation Directory>\ShoreWare Server\ShoreWare Resources\ClientInstall

Microsoft Patch KB92533 When Installing/Upgrading if you run into an error “The system administrator has set policies to prevent this

installation”, you will need to install KB925336 security update from Microsoft and a reboot of the Server is

required:

Disable the IP Phone Failover Disable the IP Phone Failover feature in Director when upgrading from ST13/ST13.x/ST14/ST14.x; otherwise a

failover condition will be induced upon the upgrade. The failback is not automatic. It is a manual process to move

the users back to their primary switch and not the spare switch.

Steps to temporarily disable IP Phone Failover across Sites

1) Log into Director 2) Go to Quick Look page 3) Ensure the checkbox is checked “Temporarily Disable IP Phone Failover Across Sites”

V-Switch Min Bandwidth Minimum required available bandwidth to install a V-switch is 64kbps. Using this minimum bandwidth, the firmware upgrade can take more than 30 minutes.

ENG-068276 – When an Instant Conference is started for a two-party call connected via a SIP tie trunk, the URL for the web conference does not appear in the participant’s call cell in Communicator for Windows. This is as designed

ENG-019154 – IE 10 on Windows 8 OS is supported, however users may find Director pages blank after viewing SA100/400 page. The workaround is to resize the browser or to enable IE compatibility mode. See KB16868

ENG-065175 – SA100/400 - Accelerator driver causes Mac boot camp installation to fail Workaround is to uninstall the driver and then install Boot Camp. ShoreTel cannot fix this. See KB16484

Exchange Sync/Outlook ENG-317591 - Conference updated in OWA does not get updated by Outlook. It could still get updated by

Exchange Sync if it is enabled. ENG-032762 - Outlook: setting multiple recurring exceptions in outlook does not work properly. Example:

User1 creates a daily recurring UCB conference in Outlook. If User1 goes to calendar view and changes tomorrow's and the day after tomorrow's time to different times, there is a chance that the first change would get reverted back. End user would actually see that first change gets reverted.

Audio Conference

1-73969806 - Send Digits on a SA-100 call doesn't work correctly when using the Dialer Pad with Windows Communicator. When this happens you need to use the phone. Issue is experienced if the call is via SIP trunk.

ShoreTel Connect Client Limitations and Behavior changes

Microsoft Updates ShoreTel recommends that you install the latest Microsoft updates prior to installing or migrating to

ShoreTel Connect

ShoreTel systems running on Microsoft Server 2008 R2 OS and Connect clients running on Windows 7

require all recommended Microsoft software updates to be installed in order to be able to run ShoreTel

Connect. You may also need to regenerate Server certificates. Note: Critical ShoreTel services will fail

to start if Microsoft updates are not installed.

Very Important Upgrade Tips

1. ShoreTel systems running on Microsoft Server 2008 R2 OS and Connect clients running on Windows 7 require all recommended Microsoft software updates to be installed in order to be able to run ShoreTel Connect. Note: Critical ShoreTel services will fail to start if Microsoft updates are not installed.

2. ShoreTel Connect is a new platform. Automatic rollback to previous versions is not supported. A manual

recovery is possible by restoring backup images of previous versions. 3. Must be on a supported 64bit OS version prior to migration to ShoreTel Connect.

4. If migrating from a 32bit OS your uboot must be updated. Please verify within QL that you have version

1.1.3.27 or greater. The new version of Boot ROM (uboot) has changed to 1.1.3.27 for both ½ width and V switches. V switches will download and install the new uboot automatically during the upgrade whereas the ½ width switches require a manual update. Please refer to the Planning and Installation Guide for detailed instructions for manually upgrading the uboot. Abbreviated instructions for those familiar with the procedure are as follows:

a. Telnet or SSH to the half-width switch (non V-switch). b. Go to Shell by typing “gotoshell”. c. Enter the command uboot_update on the CLI. Do not turn off the unit until the operation is

complete. d. Exit the shell by typing “exit”. e. Select option “4” from the STCLI to reboot the switch. f. Verify uboot version in Diagnostics and Monitoring under the Appliances Maintenance page.

2. At the very beginning of the upgrade an error message could be displayed if invalid characters are detected in

the Client User Name. Supported characters are, “a-z A-Z 0-9 . - _ “. Please allow enough time in your maintenance window to make these changes to the user names. This check for invalid characters is before the upgrade starts and it is necessary to reboot in order to correct any unsupported user names. A log file containing the usernames with the invalid characters will be referenced in the error message.

3. Please note the installer upgrade will take more time than expected from previous releases due to a backup of the configuration database and CDR database as part of the installation process. It is still recommended to make a backup of your system prior to upgrading should the process fail.

16 800-2342-01

Backup & Restore These procedures apply for ST13.x and higher.

Note: Back and restore procedures have changed for ShoreTel Connect

IPBX Upgrade Instructions ShoreTel recommends you make a backup of the Shoreline Data directory and all subdirectories contained in the

Shoreline Data directory and MySQL database prior to performing the upgrade.

1. Download the ShoreTel Software to a location that can be accessed from the Headquarters and Distributed Voicemail Servers (DVS). Extract software from zip file (if zipped).

2. Make a back-up of your existing database before upgrading your system. 3. Upgrade the Headquarters server first. 4. Run the setup.exe program to extract and launch the program. Answer the questions in the dialog

boxes presented as appropriate for your site. 5. Reboot the server when prompted. 6. Upgrade any DVSs by using the Remote Server Software and running setup.exe 7. Answer the questions in the dialog boxes presented as appropriate for your site. 8. Reboot the server when prompted. 9. Logon to Director and upgrade the ShoreGear and ShoreTel switches by restarting them. They will

automatically upgrade. Please be aware the V-switches may take up to 45 minutes to upgrade and regain connectivity.

10. As switches regain connectivity, restart ALL the IP Phones being managed by each switch (with the except for the IP400 series phones). The phones will automatically upgrade their firmware. Please note that all IP Phones must be upgraded to obtain the new firmware.

11. To get the latest firmware for the IP400 Series phones use the Diagnostic and Monitoring (D&M) Tool to upgrade them.

17 800-2342-01

12. ShoreTel Communicator client must be uninstalled from legacy deployments before migrating to the ShoreTel Connect Client platform.

Connect services. These contacts only include the Connect account creator and whomever they add to the

Authorized Contacts in their Connect account. Example, a customer who is currently on Partner Support

creates a Connect account. Upon Connect account creation they will receive and email with the ShoreTel

support contact information allowing them to contact ShoreTel directly: Contact ShoreTel Sky Support at

[email protected] or (877) 776-6729. Additionally, the ShoreTel TAC Support number (800) 742-2348

has been updated to include voice menu options for Connect.

SoftPhone Headset The SoftPhone feature is compatible with most USB-based headsets that use standard Windows USB driver. ShoreTel does not support Bluetooth headsets that connect directly to the PC's Bluetooth port. The user experience with Bluetooth headsets has proven to be disappointing in office environments because of interferences from corporate WiFi networks. However, the ShoreTel SoftPhone is compatible with headsets such as the Plantronics Voyager Bluetooth system that connects the Bluetooth headset to the PC via a USB base.
