ATLAS.ti gives you all the tools you need for computer-based qualitative data analysis. With this powerful «Knowledge Workbench,» you can conduct your research both systematically and creatively. Get started right from the tutorial and code your way through your material in no time. Sophisticated yet intuitive features help you arrange, reassemble and manage data in virtually any digital format – and with your material under control, you can focus on making sense of it all. It’s really that easy.

Whether you work in anthropology, economics, criminology, medicine, or other fields, ATLAS.ti is the key to getting the most out of your analysis.

«Those starting off with using software to assist them with their qualitative research find this package the most straight forward and quickest to learn».Angela Aubertin, London School of

Economics and Political Science

ATLAS.ti – Tough on research. Easy on you

Whether you’re dealing with dozens of audio files, sifting through piles of photos, creating PDFs from web pages, or something else entirely – ATLAS.ti handles an unsurpassed range of media formats so you can get all your data in shape.

ATLAS.ti supports text, graphic, audio and video formats. Your Rich Text Files will maintain any arbitrary formatting, live web links, and even embedded objects such as Excel™ tables, PowerPoint™ slides, audio, and video. Enjoy the freedom of working with all major graphic formats and a few more, as well as an extensive variety of audio and video formats. Play multimedia files in sync with their transcriptions – you can even do your transcription work right inside ATLAS.ti. And our new native Adobe™ PDF support feature allows you to use PDFs without losing their formatting. So the rule of thumb is: If it’s on your screen, it can be fully analyzed in ATLAS.ti.

Graphics, audio and video clips of any length, GoogleEarth™ geodata, PDFs. ATLAS.ti supports more data formats than any other QDA software.

«I have probably tried most packages on the market and after all is said and done there is only one I would use or recommend. ATLAS.ti»Catharine Payze, Department of Psychology,

University of South Africa

Tame your data – go wild with your research

Your central workspace in ATLAS.ti is the Hermeneutic Unit Editor. Think of it as a container for your project. The Hermeneutic Unit Editor organizes all the primary documents (e. g. text, graphical, audio and video materials, PDFs, GoogleEarth™ geo-data) that you wish to analyze.

Access to all project components – primary documents, quotations, codes, memos, and networks – is fast and comfortable. ATLAS.ti’s structure is logical, its handling is intuitive: activate specialized manager windows whenever you need increased control. Drag codes from the Code Manager onto a selected piece of data for smooth coding. Use Object Managers, the Object Explorer and the Co-occurrence Explorer to browse and navigate your project data. As you go along, you can visualize your findings and interpretations in a digital mind map.

Get to know your data inside out. Use any combination of ATLAS.ti tools to explore your research materials. The Network Editor, the Text Search Tool, the Auto Coder, the Object Crawler, the Word Cruncher and the Query Tool – these will help you discover the «texture» of your data, its hidden connections and embedded meanings.

With ATLAS.ti, you’re free to do what you love: experiment with research methods, stick with one path, or turn some corners. So follow your research instincts wherever they may take you.

«I never attended a training and I am pretty clueless when it comes to technology, but the tu-torial and user guidebook were enough to get me started. People ask me how I got done so fast, and I tell them, ATLAS.ti».Lois MacNamara, Assistant Dean for

Does your project require more than one brain? No problem! Our software is designed for teamwork as well as solitary analysis. To begin with, ATLAS.ti assigns explicit ownership to every piece of data you create or analyze. Dedicated tools, such as the User Administration tool and the HU Merger, make collaboration a breeze. And HTML / XML generators and the XSLT converter let you publish and exchange your material online.

These and other state-of-the-art tools help research teams streamline their work and produce serious results. With ATLAS.ti, you’re never alone – unless you want to be.

Lone riders and research gangs – welcome to ATLAS.ti

«Beyond any data complexity the epistemological primitives relations drive me to improve my creativity skills to analyze them. Its interactive potentiality with other useful software is constantly increasing the scope of my questions.»Cesar A. Cisneros Puebla, International

ATLAS.ti workspaces – a sneak peek

Hermeneutic Unit Editor. This is ATLAS.ti’s main workspace. Here, a PDF document is displayed with associated codes, memos and hyperlinks in the margin area. A list of codes floats in the foreground.

Analyzing Multimedia. It’s easy to code images, audio and video. Note the inverse display of the selected data segment above. (By the way, this is New York’s Central Park West.)

Page 7: software for qualitative data analysis, management, and ...enough to get me started. People ask me how I got done so fast, and I tell them, ATLAS.ti». Lois MacNamara, Assistant Dean

Network editor. The Network Editor displays complex relations between codes, quotes, memos and other entities. It’s the ideal workspace to build models and theories from your findings.

Object Crawler. The Object Crawler searches your data for all objects matching a search pattern.

Code Manager. The Code Manager is a convenient and frequently used tool from the ATLAS.ti workbench. The optional auto color mode visualizes the groundedness and theoretical relevance of a code.

Query Tool. For powerful queries on coded data, the Query Tool is your first choice. Boolean, proximity and semantic operators can be freely combined.

«Using the software to code and analyze the data greatly simplified a difficult task, provided the means to compare among disciplines, and to draw conclusions based on trends and themes in the data. I still have a lot to learn about using ATLAS.ti, but even as a novice user, the software was of enormous help.» Carole A. George, Carnegie Mellon

«ATLAS.ti never pushes you to take one analytic path over another, so every project turns out quite differently, which is just as it should be. I love how you stay so close to the data at every little analytic step, and how you can work and analyze directly from the visual networks – which is the only tool I have ever found to actually speed up qualitative analysis.»Nicholas Woolf, Woolf Consulting,

Santa Barbara

«I would like to add that students find it easy to learn because the system is very logically organized, it is integrated (all tools are in the same screen, no need to learn complicated routes), and it can triangulate data from different types of sources of information. Students can rapidly find the usefulness of the software and can quickly make sense of their data even by using some of the basic tools of ATLAS.ti (no need to use the more complicated tools in order to complete an analysis project adequately).»Ricardo B. Contreras, Department of

ATLAS.ti was developed at the Technical University of Berlin as early as 1989. In 1993, Thomas Muhr released the first commercial version, marking the beginnings of Scientific Software Development – now ATLAS.ti GmbH. Hailed by such luminaries as renowned sociologist Anselm Strauss (who wrote the foreword to the software manual), ATLAS.ti quickly established itself as the de-facto standard QDA application.

Since then, we have stayed true to our principles of solid engineering, innovation and uncompromising dedication to quality. We remain on the cutting edge by working closely with practitioners, researchers and consultants all over the globe. And, as the world’s longest-running QDA software company, we have laid rock-solid foundations that guarantee our product’s reliability and quality for years to come – that’s what our hundreds of thousands of users worldwide have come to trust and appreciate.

ATLAS.ti works for you

ATLAS.ti continues to set new standards in QDA software. We deliver a tool that’s as universally usable as it is uniquely capable. And because ATLAS.ti supports open standards such as XML, your data will be usable far into the future. Our mission is to give you the performance, the quality, and the flexibility you need to support the way you work. Novices and advanced users in all research areas get powerful results with ATLAS.ti – the only true Knowledge Workbench.

«New users can get started with minimal software training. When using a team-based approach, ATLAS.ti ably facilitates data management and analysis. A great product and unsurpassed support.» Douglas Fernald, University of Colorado

«We like this software. We use it. It helps us to think about what we do. We are delighted to recommend ATLAS.ti to our clients.» Paul Humphreys, Founder & Managing
