What%are%the%kids%doing%in%STREAM%lab?%Highlight'on'First'Grade'

Helping%the%herd%Our first graders learned about animal and plant inheritance through a series of activities including:

- hands on exploration of gather vs hunt, groups were asked to gather the “fruit” that their animal needs to eat through games like sorting, communicating with the team without talking and using tools like magnets and strainers

- migration games where the student’s “herd” needed to navigate obstacles like “rivers” and “mountains” using cooperation techniques

- identifying predators and ways to “sneak” past them during the migration The next STREAM lab visit students engineered animals (parent and offspring) that resembled each other. They ensured they had similar attributes and features about their bodies. Next they created plants for their habitat using Zoobs, some created trees, cactus, flowers, grasses all depending on where they live. Last, they created meals for their animals using pattern blocks and created a meal for them. Is your animal a herbivore, carnivore or omnivore? At the conclusion, teams presented to their classmates describing all the basic needs of plants and animals.

MONDAY, December 28Home for the Pawlidays: Campers will learn about coverings, habitats, migrations, pet care and more while meeting a Chinchilla, Dog, Cockatiel, Alpaca and Walking Sticks!

TUESDAY, December 29Snow Many Adaptations! Today campers will interact with a Rabbit, Dove, Snake, Turtle/Tortoise, and Hermit Crab as they learn about biomes, biogeography, adaptations, classifications and more!

WEDNESDAY, December 30Flock Together for the Holiday Feast Campers will get to feed some animals and discover the distinctive eating habits of a Guinea Pig, Mini Horse, Frog, Bearded Dragon and Chicken!

THURSDAY, December 31Celebrate all kinds of Critters While meeting a Sheep, Parrot/Bird, Hissing Cockroach, Skink, Dog and Visit Adoptions, campers will learn lifelong compassion, conservation, and respect for all living beings!

Preschool (4+ years old):9am-1pm, $50 per day

Kindergarten through 5th Grade:9am-3pm, $65 per day
