Objectives:

You will learn important information about each of the nine planets and about our solar system.

Page 3: Solar system

What is planet?

A large space body with reflects the light of the star around which it revolves.

There are nine planets within our solar system.

Page 4: Solar system

Vocabulary Orbit means to circle around. The planets orbit the sun. Our moon is a body in space that circles the

planet earth. Other planets have moons too. Our solar system includes the Sun and all the

planets, moons and stars. A star is a body which looks like a bright point

in the sky at night. A star is not a planet or a moon. Our sun is a star.

Why is the Sun is soo important?

Page 8: Solar system

•The sun is the center of our solar system• It is our closest star•All the planets in our solar system revolve around the sun.

Mercury

Page 10: Solar system

Mercury is the planet, which is closest to the sun.

It is one of the four inner planets. (Mercury, Venus, Earth, and Mars.

These four planets are also called the “rocky planets” because they are made of rocks.

Venus

Page 12: Solar system

Venus is the second planet of the sun. Venus is very bright, and you can see

it from sunrise and sunset. Venus is different from any other

planet because it spins “backward” on its axis.

Page 13: Solar system

Earth

Page 14: Solar system

Earth is the planet we live on. Earth is the third planet from the sun

It is covered mainly by water

Page 15: Solar system

Mars

Page 16: Solar system

Mars is the fourth planet from the sun

It is called “red planet” because the dirt color of surface is red.

Page 17: Solar system

Jupiter

Page 18: Solar system

Jupiter is the fifth planet from the sun and the largest from all the planet.

It has a three layers of clouds.

Page 19: Solar system

Saturn

Page 20: Solar system

Saturn is the second largest planet of solar system.

It has many wind storm in the surface

It has rings which are made of rocks.

Page 21: Solar system

Uranus

Page 22: Solar system

Uranus is the seventh planet from the sun.

It has more moons that any of planet. (so far 20 has been discovered.)

Page 23: Solar system

Neptune

Page 24: Solar system

Neptune is the eight planet from the sun.

Like Uranus, Neptune is a blue color because it’s atmosphere is made up of mainly methane gas.

It has eight moons.
