PRIDE Industries is seeking to hire

qualified candidates for the following

employment opportunities in

November 2016!

ABILITYONE PROGRAM

What is the AbilityOne Program?

The AbilityOne Program creates jobs and training opportunities for people who are blind or who have other significant

disabilities. Its primary means of doing so is by requiring Government agencies to purchase selected products and services

from nonprofit organizations employing such individuals. The US AbilityOne Commission administers the program through

two agencies: National Industries for the Blind (NIB) and SourceAmerica. Over 600 Nonprofit agencies participate in the

program and PRIDE Industries is one the largest in the nation. Operating in 14 states and D.C., PRIDE Industries employs

and serves over 5,300 people, including more than 2,900 people with disabilities.

Who is blind under the AbilityOne Program?

Blind means an individual whose central visual acuity does not exceed 20/200 in the better eye with corrective lenses or

whose visual acuity, if better than 20/200, is accompanied by a limit to the field of vision in the better eye to such a

degree that its widest diameter subtends and angle no greater than 20 degrees. (41 CFR 51-1.3)

Who is significantly disabled under the AbilityOne Program?

A person (other than a blind person) who has a significant physical or mental impairment which so limits a

person’s functional capabilities that the individual is unable to engage in normal competitive employment over an

extended period of time. (41 CFR 51-1.3) Does the individual have a physical or mental impairment that limits their

functioning ability to the degree that they cannot engage in normal competitive employment over an extended period of

time? Does the impairment affect the following functional capabilities: Self Care, Self Direction, Work Skills, Work

Tolerance, Communication or Mobility?

What are the documentation requirements?

Each nonprofit agency employing persons with significant disabilities participating in the AbilityOne Program shall

maintain in each individuals with a significant disability’s file a: written report (must be recent for conditions that can

improve over time) signed by a licensed professional, reflecting the nature and extent of the disability or disabilities that

cause such person to qualify as a person with a significant disability. The health provider does not determine if the

individual meets the definition of significantly disabled under the AbilityOne program, the health provider merely provides

nature (diagnosis) and extent (severity) of disability.

How do people apply for employment with PRIDE Industries? If someone doesn’t have a disability can they still apply?

Positions on a federal AbiltyOne contract require that most of the work hours be performed by employees with significant

disabilities. Not all employment opportunities at PRIDE Industries fall under the federal program. Anyone interested in

working for this unique organization that blends business with a social mission, is encouraged to apply on line at

www.prideindustries.com. PRIDE Industries is a VEVRAA federal contractor committed to creating a diverse environment

and is proud to be an equal opportunity employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment

without regard to race, color, religion, sex, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, national origin, marital

status, genetics, disability, age, or veteran status. Visit our website to learn more. Sean Sullivan (808) 518-9304 is the
