The NCC urges the following actions: Vote FORInitiative 428. This initiative caps payday lending interest rates at 36%. Current state law allows payday lenders to charge exorbitant interest rates of over 400% for these short-term loans. Such predatory business practices have a detrimental and adverse effect on our poor and other populations who struggle with financial stability. Vote AGAINSTInitiatives 429, 430, and 431. These initiatives, collec- tively, would alter Nebraskas Constitution and allow currently and future licensed racetracks to offer unlimited casino gambling (including slot ma- chines, card games, sports betting, and online gambling). While Catholic social teaching recognizes that gambling is not inherently immoral, cer- tain conditions must be met for it to be a moral activity. Initiatives 429, 430, and 431 do not meet these moral conditions and, as the research demonstrates, will tear down families, lead to increased addiction, propel bankruptcy and financial instability, and increase crime. First Saturday Devotion—The Knights of the Holy Eucharist invite you to join them at Sacred Heart Church for First Saturday Devotion to the Immaculate Heart of Mary. The Knights will begin Adoration and Morning prayers at 6:00 am. The First Saturday devotion will begin at 7:15 with a Marian hymn followed by the Rosary, Litany of Loreto and a reflection on the mysteries of the Rosary. The devotion will conclude with reposition and Mass at 8:15 am. Confessions will be available from 7:45 to 8:05 am. Welcome to Father Joseph Faulkner! Father Faulkner has been a priest for 15 years, and comes to us most recently from Saint Wenceslaus, Wahoo. He has also served in the Lincoln and the Hastings areas, and has taught at Pius X in Lincoln, Bishop Neumann in Wahoo, and Saint Cecilia in Hastings. He grew up in Lafayette, Indiana, but has lived in Nebraska since he was 18. He has a passion for education, and likes to read, travel, and learn languages, and over the COVID-19 lockdown he learned how to say the traditional Latin Mass. Hes also a celiac, and cant eat wheat, barley, or rye, so dont feel bad if he says no to cookies or cakes! Finally hes very excited to be here at Sacred Heart.

Solemnity of All Saints

November 1, 2020

Nebraskans are being asked to address two major ballot initiative topics this election: payday lending interest rate caps (Initiative 428) and expanded gambling (Initiatives 429, 430, 431). Archbishop Lucas and Bishop Hanefeldt, through the Nebraska Catholic Conference, (NCC), want to ensure Catholics across Nebraska are educated and take action on both of these issues. The NCC urges the following actions:

Vote ‘FOR’ Initiative 428. This initiative caps payday lending interest rates at 36%. Current state law allows payday lenders to charge exorbitant interest rates of over 400% for these short-term loans. Such predatory business practices have a detrimental and adverse effect on our poor and other populations who struggle with financial stability.

Vote ‘AGAINST’ Initiatives 429, 430, and 431. These initiatives, collec-tively, would alter Nebraska’s Constitution and allow currently and future licensed racetracks to offer unlimited casino gambling (including slot ma-chines, card games, sports betting, and online gambling). While Catholic social teaching recognizes that gambling is not inherently immoral, cer-tain conditions must be met for it to be a moral activity.

The devotion will conclude with reposition and Mass at 8:15 am. Confessions will be available from 7:45 to 8:05 am.

We have room for people at most Masses: There is room for about 60-70 people per Mass, even with the closed areas. Weekday Masses have generally had about 30 people, with room for 30 more.

Wearing masks is encouraged. If you can maintain 6 feet distance from non-family members at all times in church, a mask is not strictly required. But it does help you avoid spreading the virus.

Reminder to pray well at home: If you are not able to attend Sunday Mass, please remember that you have the privilege and duty as a Baptized Catholic to worship God as best you can on Sundays. Keep making time for prayer at home, such as participating in the Mass online or on TV, reading the Bi-ble, and/or praying the Rosary.

If you or others around you are at risk, please stay home. We will continue to livestream 7:30 am Mass on Sundays, as well as some weekday Masses. Go to: www.Facebook.com/sacredheartlincolnNE

The new missalettes are in a box in the back of church. You may take one to use at home, or to bring back-and-forth to Mass. If you take a missalette, please do NOT give it back unless you are asked.

The SEVEN SISTERS APOSTOLATE is being revived and restored at Sacred Heart Parish! Dear women, please prayerfully consider praying a holy hour each week for our pastor, Fr. Kosch. St. Vincent de Paul (SVdP) In the Gospel today, we hear the good news that when we keep our focus on God and serve one another, God exalts us! As you place your gift in the Society of St. Vin-cent de Paul envelope, please say a special prayer for those in need who have no one to pray for them. During our fiscal year ending in September, through your gifts, the Sacred Heart conference of the Society of SVdP was able to bring God's love and mercy to 51 families, including 85 children. Among those families, 19 needed help because of the Covid-19 pandemic. We provided $11,726 in rent assistance, $5,197 in utilities assistance, and $3,817 on other expenses. Our members devoted 160 hours of direct ser-vice to those in need in the name of Jesus Christ. Thank you for your ongoing financial support and prayers! The next SVdP meeting will be November 14 at 9:00AM in the rectory basement. If you would like to learn more about helping the less fortunate, please join us.
