In an aging society like today, the fact that seniors afflicted with Alzheimer’s disease are increasing and there are such few facilities to take care of them is a rising social issue. One of the many causes of Alzheimer’s disease is the deterioration of the synapse, which leads to memory loss and neuron dysfunction. Our research began with the idea that if it is possible to create a substance that can substitute a synapse, then curing Alzheimer’s would be possible. First designed in 1971 and first created in 2008 by researchers at Hewlett-Packard, a memristor has the potential to be used in various research areas because it has similar electrical characteristics as a synapse. To imple-ment a memristor, we made a RRAM (Resistive Random Access Memory) and observed its characteristics. The most important feature of the structure of the RRAM we made was that a flexible PES (Polyethersulfone) substrate was coated with alumi-num and zinc oxide so that it had the potential to act inside the body in a rolled up state. Also, aluminum is nontoxic to the body as well as being the most abundant metal on Earth. We used PES because the substrate had to be able to withstand heat, because it was exposed to strong heat inside the sputter and the evaporator which was used to coat aluminum and zinc oxide. The objective of the experiment was to expose the RRAM to different conditions to see in which condition the RRAM expressed the ideal characteristics of a memristor. The different variables considered were the injection of oxygen and time exposed. We then drew a current-voltage graph using a probe station and verified its potential as a memristor.

“A Research for Actualizing Memristor with Macromolecule compound” (12th)
F urther Research 1
Unlike oxidized metal element, macromolecules are expected to adopt well
at salty conditions and hot temperature of body.
Synapse has different heights: in the case of chemical synapse is generally 20~40 nm,
thin fiber (e.g C fiber) is about 0.2~0.5 μm, and Aα motor neuron has 13~20 μm of height.
To manufacture the fittest condition of sample element for human body adaptation,
the height of sample is 2nm, width is 10μm of rectangular structure.
The settings of Variables
-The oxidation limit of doped polymer thin film/ the limit of doping of doped oxidized metal
-The ratio of initial doped layer and initial undoped layer when voltage is not given

<Blue print for automatic traffic controlling system>
In South Korea, as big cities rapidly grow, the amount of traffic also increased tremendously. Thus, frequent traffic jams are one of the biggest problem in society, causing numerous accidents and wasting precious time. One of the basic reasons why traffic jam happens is, again, overload of traffic. However, another biggest reason is that the inefficient traffic controlling system with traffic lights. Typical traffic lights’ signals are static, not depending on the amount of cars of each side. This uniformly periodical traffic lights cause the congestion because of the imbalance of traffic. Thus, the research began with the thought that, it would be efficient when the traffic lights could control the length of signals automatically by sensing the weight of cars. The research based on constructing a circuit and a system adapting piezoelectric element. Piezoelectric element is a way of generating electric energy that transforms pressure into energy. Thus, by connecting comparator, multiplexer and counter, the circuit counts the number that piezoelectric is pressed in each different side of road. When the circuit perceives bigger number counted in one other side of road, the phenomenon which means the most amount of traffic is waiting for the signal, traffic light changes its priority to the direction. In breadboard, I could identify the circuit worked as the signals that generated with the change of voltage managed through decision element. . Though there could be many other traffic controlling mechanisms, I used the most possible logic circuit to actualize the controlling system. It is expected to gain better version of controlling system with more research, when building a circuit that can manage the order of traffic lights for the other direction that has less amount of traffic.

TRANSFORMER Sir! somebody hacked the system! The traffic controlling system is broken down. It will take long time to recover!
We need help!
We will revenge on our old enemy, Optimus Prime! Attack the planet!
I will go first.
Yesterday, there was a great traffic jam in the city. The traffic lights were turned off. But at that moment, the new invention of Dr. Solhee Kim helped the restitution of the traffic jam. In this studio, we invited our Dr. Kim for the explanation of her new invention.

Help me out! where are you? hurry up! the enemies are chasing me!
Sorry!we stuck in the traffic! And we can't transform right now.We may hurt passengers
My new invention is buried in this crossroads. It is called 'the automatic traffic controlling system with piezo-electric element' If I turn on this switch, the traffic problem will be solved temporarily.
Wait! Prime! I have a good idea.

Thank you for invitation, Piezoelectric element is a source of energy that can generate electricity. I thought, using the electicity generated at each side of roads of crossroads, the amount of traffic can be calculated. Thus, I built a system which controlls the traffic according to the data calculated! I will explain the simple mechanism of the automatic traffic controlling system!
When the pressure is given to piezoelectric element, the balance of electron and proton of crystal is broken down.To stabilize the disturbance, electron moves, generating electricity
The electricity then goes to the circuit, acting as a signal. First circuit measures and selects which piezoelectric elementhas the most number of electric signals. Second circuit determines whether the green light of each traffic light turns on or not.

Now days, ozone layer is gradually destructed with constant air pollution and Ultra Violet rays that passed through earth’s atmospheric layers started to hurt the skin cells directly. To prevent skin from destructive UV rays, sun block became a necessary item for every people. However, typical sun blocks that are now on sales contain harmful elements that may be accumulated in human body. Especially, Titanium Dioxide that consists of creams in sun block destroys skin cell, and Avobenzone and Benzopyrene are carcinogenic substances that generate oxygen free radical when it exposes to sun light and create cancer cells. Thus, the research has its purpose on producing an eco-friendly and healthy sun block that does not contain metal element to block UV rays. Among the substances that absorb and block UV rays in nature, we decided to use petals of flowers, which have specific pattern called nectar guide that attracts bees and butterfly by reflecting UV rays, for the production of eco friendly harmless sun block. These nectar guides are believed to contain Flavonoids which have similar UV absorbance to that of carcinogenic Avobenzone which is commonly used in sun blocks. The purpose of experiments was to find out the petal that contains the most effective UV rays blocking substances among the selected samples of flowers, investigating which substance of Flavonoid takes the most percentage of all. Thus, we abstracted substance samples from petals using methanol, and dissolved it with DMSO making same samples that have uniform density. Then, using nano spectrophotometer, we observed the absorbance of each flowers’ petal samples and selected the sample that had the highest absorbance. Finally, It turned out that the main substance of Asta amellus and Chrysanthemum that had the highest absorbance was Flavone. It is proven that it has possibility of an eco friendly harmless sun block using petals, when I gain an efficient sample that abstracted pure substances, consisted only of Flavonoids, from petals. .

Internship at Neuroscience Research Institute, Gachon University of Medicine and ScienceResearch Summary: Investigate about ‘habituation’ of laughter and specific laughter path in brain using f MRI
Research advisor for national TV broadcasting program, MBC “101 secrets of brain”, an episode of ‘The Secret of laughter’Published in ICY (International Conference for Youth), Excellent Scholar’s Award
Laughter is used as a method for expressing one’s emotions. Due to its expressiven ess and impact on humans’ both physical and mental health, laughter has been an interesting topic to be researched. Laughing is not a learned behavior; it is an innate instinct of not only humans but also animals. Though laughter therapy cannot cure the disease perfectly, but it can improve some physical functions and mental stress. It is also well known that the brain has a profound relationship with laughter, yet not discovered specifically. For human’s mental health, laughter mitigates the stress and makes people feel happy. Also, there is a tendency that people who laugh a lot are more sensitive to humor. From neurological aspect to psychology of human personality, laughter evokes numerous questions . The convic-tion most people held about the relationship between laughter and personality is that people who laugh loudly with dynamic and animated gestures are extroverted, and people with timid smile and lack of gestures are introverted. I also agreed to this widespread conviction and decided to enhance and substantiate it. To approach more central to the origin of laughter and its curative aspects, I started a research to verify the relationship between brain and laughter using fMRI. I made a hypothesis that, as the amount of laughter increases, laughter will be adapted and ‘habituated’ in brain. There would be a specific pattern or path of laughter which strengths as people laugh. And the brain and subject would react even with the smaller stimulus. Before specifying the path, I had to investigate whether the laughter does really adapt to brain. Using fMRI, I observed the brain of the subject which reacts with laughter audio and neutral stimulus like a picture of dots and examined only with neutral stress to see whether brain reacts to it or not. Audio laughter is used because the conclusion from the advanced research proved that people can recognize other people’s laughter, and hearing the sound can bring the change in mood. Listening others’ laughter also can act as a stress of laughter of oneself in brain. Then, I gave strong unpleasant stress to the subject and viewed the neutral stress again to identify the effect of annulment by studied laughter. After the habituation of laughter of the subject, it is very plausible to conclude about the relationship between the laughter and mental health: The people who laugh a lot will have more persistence on the unpleasant stress than the people who do not laugh well.
