CTSO Coat Drive The Solomon CTSO's are hosting a Winter Clothing Drive from Nov. 24th to Dec. 12. The goal is 50 items, please bring in gently used Winter Clothing items to support our community. A tree is set up in the commons and a wrapped box is up by the high school office. Drop items off at those locations. Middle School Cheerleaders: Pop A Shot will be offered during the MS Varsity boys home basketball games during half time. Each shot is $1. You make a basket ~ you get a 2 liter of pop. Thanks for your support of the MS Cheerleaders. School Pictures A huge thanks to Ms. Ediger and our maintenance staff for their hard work on the pictures of our students placed around the school. We welcome any visitors to our building to come and look at them. They look great! Niche Rankings Solomon High School was ranked as the 55th best public high school in the state of Kansas. Niche evaluates schools based on achievement scores, graduation rate, and public opinion. Overall, Solomon High School received a grade of a B+. After School Program ­ The United Way and the First Bank of Kansas invite Solomon and Dickinson County residents to stop by and pledge to the After School Program, during the United Way’s 15 days of giving.  Over the course of December, residents can pledge to their favorite public entity.  The Solomon After School Program’s, Day of Giving, is December 18th. 

Student Art Work ­ We are pleased to announce that Tylor Wagner’s artwork, "Flight at Dawn", is a  finalist in the Painting category for this year’s “Kansans…As Talented As You Think!” high school art contest.  The number of entries in this year’s contest has grown substantially, and so has the quality of the entries!  Some of the finalists will have their works chosen for use in the Kansas High School Art Calendar and/or Poster.  Not all finalists nor winners will be included in the calendar and/or poster, since other factors may be relevant in selecting the works.

ACTIVITY AND ATHLETIC NEWS  

Morning Weights ­ We would like to remind all of our athletes that the weight room is open in the morning from 6:30 ­ 7:30 am.  Also, powerlifting will begin shortly. 

Middle School Basketball ­ On Thursday evening, Solomon hosted Elyria Christian.  The Elyria girls only had 6 players and were unable to field a junior varsity squad.  Our varsity girls defeated them handily. The Junior Varsity boys were defeated and the Varsity boys lost on a last second three pointer.  The middle school teams travel to Peabody­Burns next Thursday.

High School Basketball ­  On Friday evening the SHS basketball squads host their game of the season against Sacred Heart.  The teams will participate in a round­robin tournament next week with games against Minneapolis, Bennington, and Halstead.

SHS Basketball Mentorship Program ­ The SHS boys basketball team will be participating in a mentorship program with elementary students.  Throughout basketball season, high school players will be visiting classrooms and reading books to our elementary students.  There will also be other activities planned for the elementary students as well. 

SHS Basketball Sub­State ­ Earlier this week KSHSAA announced sub­state pairings for post­season basketball tournaments, to be held from March 2­7.  Solomon High School is in the Wakefield sub­state, along with the following schools: Bennington, Onaga, Republic County, Sacred Heart, Wabaunsee, Wakefield, Washington County.

White Elephant Exchange ­ I would like to remind all staff members that SMHS will hold a staff white elephant exchange on Friday, December 19 in the library. 

Mid­Year Professional Development Plan Reviews ­ For staff under evaluation, we will conduct your mid­year professional development plan review at the time of your second post observation.  For staff, not under evaluation, your mid­year review is on the evaluation calendar distributed at the beginning of the school year.  As we have these conversations, please provide evidence of what activities you are engaged in to meet the requirements of your goals. 

Student Grades ­ Continue to make sure that student grades are updated on a weekly basis.  As we near the end of the semester continuously remind students of assignments and activities that they need to complete.  Remember, are goal is to assess knowledge and mastery of content.  It is our responsibility to ensure student success.
