Reaching an exposed station
CANYONING
For rappelling with the rope in a bag, aknot at the end o the rope is essential,as it is impossible to see ahead o time i
the rope is long enough or the plannedrappel.
Stepping on slippery rock can be a problem when
approaching a vertical passage. This is the case
when trying to reach a permanent station above
a waterall. Accessing the anchors can be delicate and
more dangerous than the actual rappel. Trying to reachan exposed anchor without belay is not recommended.
The leader can reach the station by sel-lowering rom the
anchor above. Once attached to the station, the rope will
act as a fxed line or the rest o the party.
Installing a sel-lowering system
1. The rope attached to the harness passes through theanchors, then through the PIRANA. The ree end o the rope isstored in a bag attached to the harness. The rope should glidewithout being damaged. I the anchor is too sharp, a quick linkwill be required.

5. The second can reach the station by moving whileconnected to the fxed line. Once the entire party has passed, the rope can be pulled without leaving any equipment on thefrst anchors.
Installing a fxed line
3. Tie into the station. Tie o the rope on the PIRANA i bothhands are needed or tying into the anchors.
4. Attach the end o the rope that was on the harness to thestation. Tighten the fxed line slightly, attach the second rope endwith a fgure eight knot. The end o the rope stays in the storagebag.
2. Belay by sel-lowering
PIRANAThe PIRANA descender was designed specially or canyoning. It oers
multiple braking options and can be installed on the rope without removing
it rom the harness. Used with an ATTACHE locking carabiner (comes
separately), it makes a solid set-up that is practically impossible to
lose once installed on the harness. Reduces the risk o leverage on the
carabiner gate due to poor positioning. The PIRANA helps prevent the
ormation o a larks head hitch around the body and reduces rope twisting,
without decreasing braking riction.
