The fi rst nuclear power plant in the worldThe fi rst nuclear power plant in the world was started
in 1954 in Obninsk.
The fi rst nuclear submarine in the USSRThe fi rst nuclear submarine, Leninsky Komsomol, joined
the Navy in 1959.
The fi rst nuclear icebreakerThe fi rst nuclear icebreaker in the world, Lenin, started its
operation in 1959.

The fi rst radioactive waste incineratorRadioactive waste incinerator was commissioned at Kalinin
Nuclear Power Plant in 1988. Wastes are processed in tight
chambers at high temperatures (up to 1200 °C). Currently,
this method of waste processing is one of the most effi cient.
The fi rst power-engineering divisionAtomenergomash Holding was established in 2006 as
aPower-Engineering Division combining key design bureau,
research and design institute and nuclear and power
engineering.
The fi rst nuclear power plant in Middle EastThe fi rst power unit of Bushehr NPP was completed and
commissioned in cooperation with Russia in 2011. This
is the fi rst nuclear power plant in Iran and in the whole
Middle East. The unique feature of the project is that
specialists had to complete the plant partially built by
German concern Kraftwerk Union AG in 1970s.

Following the international tendencies, Rosatom is transferring to packaged supply of nuclear and turbine island equipment based on integrated off er. Atomenergomash became the fi rst Russian company exercising integrated approach to production and supply of NPP reactor island upon customer’s request.

DESIGN
Atomenergomash group of companies includes OKB
Gidropress, the only Russian designer of VVER type reactor
plants operated at nuclear power plants in Russia and
abroad. Long term experience in development of reactor
plants enables the specialists to off er unique designs
addressing the factors of possible human impact and
hydrometeorological and geological features at specifi c
NPP sites.
The common feature for all reactor plant designs
developed by OKB Gidropress is high quality standards
and maximum requirements to safety level.
The important activity of Atomenergomash group
of companies is development of fast neutron reactor
plants. Afrikantov OKBM, the largest design bureau in
Engineering Division, performs design and production of
this type of reactors.
The company is also the leading developer of maritime
nuclear reactor plants, industrial nuclear reactors for
small and medium power NPPs, and main and auxiliary
equipment for nuclear industry.

KEY PRODUCTION CAPACITIES
CKBM is the only domestic designer and manufacturer of
main circulation pumps for all types of Russian reactors.
State-of-art development of design bureau is circulation
pump without oil system (GTsNA-1753) with all
components lubricated and cooled by water (including
motor components). Absence of oil system signifi cantly
improves fi re safety of nuclear power plant. This technical
solution has no similar solutions in the world.
The company has the only complex in Russia for large
scale testing of pumps under conditions simulating all
parameters of reactor operation (pressure, temperature,
type of heat transfer fl uid). All company’s products
supplied to nuclear power plants are subjected to tests
in diff erent modes, which enable timely detection of
possible deviations from required operation parameters
and rectifi cation of defects.
This is the enterprise that inherited capacities and
competences of largest Soviet equipment manufacturer
for nuclear Power sector, Atommash plant.
Upgraded production capacities allow simultaneous
fabrication of up to 4 sets of reactor equipment for VVER
type nuclear power plants.
The branch also produces items for largest Russian and
foreign oil refi neries, producing and power generation
companies. Proprietary river berth for loading of oversize
cargoes allows transportation of products to any point in

with full production and process cycle from design,
manufacturing and testing to packaged supply of items

Afrikantov OKBM performs a large scope of works aimed

It is one of the largest production complexes in Russia’s
North-West. It has its own foundry and processing
facilities. The plant produces shells, vessels and other
equipment for nuclear and traditional power industry,
petrochemical and pulp and paper industry.
It is one of world’s largest manufacturers of special cast
and forged small batch and customized items for nuclear
industry, metallurgy, shipbuilding, power industry and general
engineering industry.
The company has state-of-art metallurgical, metal processing
and machining equipment and performs full production
cycle – from generation of marketing and technical ideas up
to their implementation in readymade products. Production
capacities of EMSS includes electrical steel casting shop,
foundry, machining shop.
Lathes of the company enable processing of components
with diameter up to 4 m, length up to 24 m, weight up to 300
tons, turning machines enable processing of components
with diameter up to 8 m and height up to 6 m with maximum
weight of component up to 250 tons. Boring machines
enable manufacturing of components with length up to 32 m
and height up to 5 m. Products by EMSS are supplied to over
50 countries worldwide.

SAFETY
IMPROVEMENT OF LOCALIZING SAFETY SYSTEMS
Nuclear power plants designed in Russia operate reliably and safely, which is confi rmed by results of regular inspections by both domestic authorities (Rostekhnadzor) and international organizations. High safety level of nuclear power plants is ensure through use of mutually redundant passive and active system.
Equipment manufactured by Atomenergomash companies is
used in emergency and planned cooling systems, emergency
feed water supply systems, emergency core cooling system
(ECCS), and passive deluge system tank. Molten core catcher
is an important innovation for passive safety system of
nuclear power plants.
This is a unique Russian safety technology produced by
Atomenergomash, which represents a conical shell installed
on supports at the bottom of concrete reactor pit. Shell
is fi lled with special materials that are mixed with molten
core in case of hypothetical emergency and ensure uniform
placement of molten core in catcher shell. Depending on
modifi cation, the weight of molten core catcher may be up
to 800 tons with diameter of about 6.5 m.
