After all, changing habits and routines can be as stressful as getting a root canal. For those with more experience, the idea of changing something can be troublesome even when they know it is necessary. I remember when my grandfather gave me his wooden tv (yes, they once made televisions in wooden cases). After using it for almost 10 years, I decided it was time for a change. Never mind the fact that the UHF channel knob was broken and the remote control had buttons missing, the idea of throwing it out and replacing it was to me like throwing away history and family. It didn’t matter that channel 2’s screen kept flipping and the volume button was almost impossible to work. This piece of ancient technology reminded me of great memories with my grandparents who had since passed. Sometimes change means admitting that you are wrong. For example, changing your diet and deciding to eat healthy foods requires that you examine the mistakes of eating junk food routinely throughout the week. Change is never easy but it can lead us to a better place. The definition of insanity is the refusal to change when you know that change is necessary. Change is very difficult in the context of our Christian walk but it is fundamental to achieving success. Jesus, John the Baptist, Paul, and the other Apostles all tell their followers to “repent.” Repentance means to change completely. The message of repentance is to turn away from the world and its philosophies and pursue God and his word with every effort. Meditate on this passage from Romans 12:1-2: “Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. 2 Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.Guatemala Night We are planning to have a bi-lingual worship on August 30 at the 6 pm service followed by a potluck fellowship meal. Your influence for Christ

around the world.....

A few weeks ago, we reported on Danny & Lee

Bratcher’s mission work in Brazil. Danny is a former

RH member who receives support from us. His latest

newsletter reports that they have added a baptistry to their

church building. Daniel Tenório, who is the son of one of the

church members, was baptized on June 14 after studying with

Danny over the past couple of months.

from the Bible in English! Danny has also been teaching the

English Bible Talk course to Rodrigo (right). Rodrigo is a

university professor and likes to study the Bible in Portuguese.

Please continue to pray for Danny and Lee, their good

health, and their efforts for winning souls for Christ.

Feel free to continue bringing supplies all year and put them in the Haywood box.

Upcoming Series on “Transformation

Occasionally all of us need a little spark to help keep us

excited about our Christian walk and to also help us

reevaluate our priorities and make changes if needed.

This is true individually and as a congregation. I still

hear comments from our members about how much

they were blessed by “The Story” series. What a

blessing to rally around a theme and a goal as a

congregation. Starting Sept. 27th

we will have that

opportunity again. Individually and as a congregation

we will have the opportunity to be “Transformed” in

seven keys areas of life. So the question is, “are YOU

willing to let God transform YOU”? To receive the

most benefit from the series please consider meeting

with a small group for these seven weeks. It will not

only help transform your life but you will also make

some new Christian friends. More details coming!!!
