4. “Thy Will be done on earth as it is in heaven”

• This is the way Jesus prayed• Lk. 22:42• [42] Saying, Father, if thou be

willing, remove this cup from me: nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done.

18

Page 19: Song Numbers 1. The Disciple’s Prayer Mt. 6:9-15 2

• If we pray for His will to be done – then we should follow His will by faithful obedience

19

Page 20: Song Numbers 1. The Disciple’s Prayer Mt. 6:9-15 2

Lk. 6:46

• [46] And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say?

20

Page 21: Song Numbers 1. The Disciple’s Prayer Mt. 6:9-15 2

• [11] Give us this day our daily bread.

21

Page 22: Song Numbers 1. The Disciple’s Prayer Mt. 6:9-15 2

• Bread = stands for food in general Give us = shows that we depend upon God for our needs

22

Page 23: Song Numbers 1. The Disciple’s Prayer Mt. 6:9-15 2

Js. 1:17

• [17] Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.

23

Page 24: Song Numbers 1. The Disciple’s Prayer Mt. 6:9-15 2

• We must “Pray for bread, and then meet the conditions – go to work.” (G. Nichols)

24

Page 25: Song Numbers 1. The Disciple’s Prayer Mt. 6:9-15 2

2 Th. 3:10-12

• [10] For even when we were with you, this we commanded you, that if any would not work, neither should he eat.[11] For we hear that there are some which walk among you disorderly, working not at all, but are busybodies.

25

Page 26: Song Numbers 1. The Disciple’s Prayer Mt. 6:9-15 2

• [12] Now them that are such we command and exhort by our Lord Jesus Christ, that with quietness they work, and eat their own bread.

26

Page 27: Song Numbers 1. The Disciple’s Prayer Mt. 6:9-15 2

• Daily bread = God teaches us to take life one day at a time• Many problems can be solved if

we focus on “today” and not yesterday or tomorrow

27

Page 28: Song Numbers 1. The Disciple’s Prayer Mt. 6:9-15 2

Mt. 6:34

• 34 Be not therefore anxious for the morrow: for the morrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof. (ASV)

28

Page 29: Song Numbers 1. The Disciple’s Prayer Mt. 6:9-15 2

Js. 4:14-15

• 14 whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. What is your life? For ye are a vapor, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.• 15 For that ye ought to say, If the Lord

will, we shall both live, and do this or that.

29

Page 30: Song Numbers 1. The Disciple’s Prayer Mt. 6:9-15 2

Mt. 6:12

• [12] And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.

30

Page 31: Song Numbers 1. The Disciple’s Prayer Mt. 6:9-15 2

Lk.11:4

• [4] And forgive us our sins; for we also forgive every one that is indebted to us.

31

Page 32: Song Numbers 1. The Disciple’s Prayer Mt. 6:9-15 2

Mt. 6:14-15

• [14] For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you:[15] But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses

32

Page 33: Song Numbers 1. The Disciple’s Prayer Mt. 6:9-15 2

Forgive us our trespasses – as we forgive

• We must forgive others in order to be forgiven

33

Page 34: Song Numbers 1. The Disciple’s Prayer Mt. 6:9-15 2

Mk. 11:25

• 25 “And whenever you stand praying, if you have anything against anyone, forgive him, that your Father in heaven may also forgive you your trespasses (NKJV)

34

Page 35: Song Numbers 1. The Disciple’s Prayer Mt. 6:9-15 2

We (Christians) need forgiveness – we are not sinlessly perfect

• 1 Jn. 1:8,10• [8] If we say that we have no sin,

we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.[10] If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.

35

Page 36: Song Numbers 1. The Disciple’s Prayer Mt. 6:9-15 2

The sinner who wants to be saved must:

• Hear the word of God• Believe• Repent of sins• Confess faith in Christ• Be baptized for remission of sins

36

Page 37: Song Numbers 1. The Disciple’s Prayer Mt. 6:9-15 2

• [13] And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.

37

Page 38: Song Numbers 1. The Disciple’s Prayer Mt. 6:9-15 2

“Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil”

• God does not tempt man to do evil!

38

Page 39: Song Numbers 1. The Disciple’s Prayer Mt. 6:9-15 2

Js. 1:13-14

• 13] Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man:[14] But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed.

39

Page 40: Song Numbers 1. The Disciple’s Prayer Mt. 6:9-15 2

• When we are tempted God provides a way of escape• We must avoid temptation• “Don’t pitch your tent toward

Sodom as Lot did”

40

Page 41: Song Numbers 1. The Disciple’s Prayer Mt. 6:9-15 2

1 Th. 5:22

• [22] Abstain from all appearance of evil.

41
